Chronicles tells the same story as Samuel and Kings but from the priests' point of view, with the northern kingdom largely offstage and temple worship front and centre. Solomon's dedication prayer is the centrepiece. Then the long parade of kings — most of them failures, with flashes of real greatness from Asa, Jehoshaphat (who prays, we don’t know what to do, but our eyes are on you, and the enemy destroys itself), Hezekiah, and young Josiah. Ends with Jerusalem burned and the people in exile — then Cyrus says: let them go home.
