The man born blind
And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. And his disciples asked him, Master, who sinned — this man or his parents — that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither this man sinned nor his parents. It was so the works of God could be shown in him. I must do the works of the one who sent me while it is day. Night is coming, when nobody can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. When he had said this, he spat on the ground and made mud with the spittle, and put the mud on the blind man's eyes. And he said to him, Go and wash in the pool of Siloam — which means Sent. So he went and washed, and came back seeing. So the neighbours, and those who had seen him before when he was blind, said, Isn't this the man who used to sit and beg? Some said, It is him. Others said, He looks like him. But he said, I am the man. So they said to him, How were your eyes opened? He answered, A man called Jesus made mud and put it on my eyes and said to me, Go to the pool of Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and I could see. Then they said to him, Where is he? He said, I don't know.
And as Jesus went past, he saw a man who was blind from birth. And his disciples asked him: Teacher, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind? Questioned by the Pharisees
They brought the man who had been blind to the Pharisees. And it was the sabbath when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes. So the Pharisees asked him again how he had received his sight. And he said to them, He put mud on my eyes, and I washed, and I can see. So some of the Pharisees said, This man isn't from God, because he doesn't keep the sabbath. Others said, How can a man who is a sinner do signs like these? And there was a division among them. So they said to the blind man again, What do you say about him, since he opened your eyes? He said, He is a prophet. But the Jews didn't believe he had been blind and received his sight, until they called the parents of the man who had received his sight. And they asked them, Is this your son, the one you say was born blind? How is it then that he can see now? His parents answered them, We know this is our son, and that he was born blind. But how he can see now, we don't know. And who opened his eyes, we don't know. He is old enough. Ask him. He can speak for himself. His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews. Because the Jews had already agreed that anyone who confessed him to be the Christ would be put out of the synagogue. That is why his parents said, He is old enough. Ask him. So they called the man who had been blind a second time and said to him, Give God the glory. We know this man is a sinner. He answered them, Whether he is a sinner I don't know. One thing I do know: I was blind, and now I see. Then they said to him again, What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes? He answered them, I have told you already and you didn't listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to be his disciples too? Then they abused him and said, You are his disciple. We are Moses' disciples. We know God spoke to Moses. But as for this fellow, we don't know where he comes from. The man answered them, Well, here is a remarkable thing — that you don't know where he comes from, and yet he has opened my eyes. Now we know that God doesn't listen to sinners. But if any man worships God and does his will, he listens to him. Since the world began, nobody has ever heard of anyone opening the eyes of a man born blind. If this man weren't from God, he could do nothing. They answered him, You were born entirely in sin, and you are lecturing us? And they threw him out.

He said to them: He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and I see. So some of the Pharisees said: This man isn't of God, because he doesn't keep the sabbath day. Others said: How can a man who's a sinner do miracles like these? And there was a division among them. They say to the blind man again: What do you say about him, that he's opened your eyes? He said: He's a prophet. But the Jews didn't believe about him that he'd been blind and got his sight, till they'd called the parents of the one who'd got his sight. And they asked them: Is this your son, who you say was born blind? So how does he see now? His parents answered them: We know this is our son and that he was born blind. His parents answered them, We know this is our son, and that he was born blind.

So your sin remains.

Jesus said to them, If you were blind you would have no sin. But now you say, We see. So your sin remains.
