The good shepherd
I tell you the truth, whoever doesn't go into the sheepfold by the door but climbs in some other way is a thief and a robber. But the one who goes in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens to him, and the sheep hear his voice. And he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice. And they won't follow a stranger. They will run from him, because they don't know the voice of strangers. Jesus told them this parable. But they didn't understand what he was saying to them. So Jesus said to them again, I tell you the truth, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers. But the sheep didn't listen to them. I am the door. If anyone goes in by me he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so they may have life, and have it in full. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. But the hired man, who isn't the shepherd and doesn't own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs. And the wolf catches them and scatters the flock. The hired man runs because he is a hired man, and doesn't care about the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and I know my sheep, and my sheep know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep. And I have other sheep that aren't of this fold. I must bring them too, and they will hear my voice. And there will be one flock and one shepherd. This is why my Father loves me — because I lay down my life, so I may take it up again. Nobody takes it from me. I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This is the command I received from my Father.

Can a demon open the eyes of the blind? And it was the Feast of Dedication at Jerusalem, and it was winter. And Jesus was walking in the temple, in Solomon's Porch. Then the Jews gathered round him and said to him, How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus answered them, I told you, and you don't believe. The works I do in my Father's name bear witness of me. But you don't believe, because you aren't my sheep, as I told you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. And I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and nobody will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all. And nobody is able to snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one. Then the Jews picked up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, I have shown you many good works from my Father. For which of them are you stoning me? The Jews answered him, We aren't stoning you for a good work, but for blasphemy — because you, being a man, make yourself God. Jesus answered them, Isn't it written in your law, I said, You are gods? If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came — and the scripture can't be broken — then do you say of the one the Father set apart and sent into the world, You are blaspheming, because I said, I am the Son of God? If I don't do the works of my Father, don't believe me. But if I do, then even if you don't believe me, believe the works — so you may know and believe that the Father is in me and I in him. So they tried to seize him again. But he escaped out of their hand, and went away again beyond the Jordan, to the place where John had first been baptising. And he stayed there. And many came to him and said, John did no miracle. But everything John said about this man was true. And many believed in him there.
