Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. And early in the morning he came into the temple again, and all the people came to him. And he sat down and taught them. You judge by the flesh. I judge nobody. And yet if I do judge, my judgement is true, because I am not alone. It is I and the Father who sent me. But the one who sent me is true, and I speak to the world what I have heard from him. They didn't understand that he was speaking to them about the Father. Then Jesus said to them, When you have lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself, but speak these things as my Father has taught me. And the one who sent me is with me. The Father hasn't left me alone, because I always do what pleases him. As he spoke these words, many believed in him.

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed in him, If you continue in my word, you are really my disciples. And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free. They answered him, We are Abraham's offspring and have never been enslaved to anyone. How can you say, You will be made free? Jesus answered them, I tell you the truth, whoever commits sin is the slave of sin. And the slave doesn't stay in the house forever. But the Son stays forever. So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. I know you are Abraham's offspring. But you are trying to kill me, because my word has no place in you. I speak what I have seen with my Father. And you do what you have seen with your father. They answered him, Abraham is our father. Jesus said to them, If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham. But now you are trying to kill me — a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God. Abraham didn't do that. You do the deeds of your father. Then they said to him, We weren't born of sexual immorality. We have one Father, God himself. Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, you would love me. Because I came out from God and am here. I haven't come on my own — he sent me. Why don't you understand what I say? It is because you can't hear my word. You are of your father the devil, and you want to do what your father wants. He was a murderer from the beginning, and didn't stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie he speaks his own language, because he is a liar and the father of lies. And because I tell you the truth, you don't believe me. Which of you can convict me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why don't you believe me? Whoever is of God hears God's words. This is why you don't hear them — because you are not of God. Then the Jews answered him, Aren't we right in saying you are a Samaritan and have a demon? Jesus answered, I don't have a demon. I honour my Father, and you dishonour me. And I don't seek my own glory. There is one who seeks it, and he judges. I tell you the truth, if a man keeps my word he will never see death. Then the Jews said to him, Now we know you have a demon. Abraham is dead, and the prophets. And you say, If a man keeps my word he will never taste death. Are you greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead. Who do you make yourself out to be? Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing. It is my Father who honours me — the one you say is your God. Yet you haven't known him. But I know him. And if I said I don't know him, I would be a liar like you. But I know him, and I keep his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day. And he saw it, and was glad. Then the Jews said to him, You aren't fifty years old yet, and have you seen Abraham? Jesus said to them, I tell you the truth, before Abraham was, I am. Then they picked up stones to throw at him. But Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple, passing through the crowd, and so went on his way.
Then Jesus said to the Jews who believed in him: If you stay in my word, then you're truly my disciples. And you'll know the truth, and the truth will make you free.
