The empty tomb
The first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came early to the tomb, while it was still dark, and saw the stone taken away from the tomb. So she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said to them, They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have laid him. So Peter went out, and that other disciple, and they came to the tomb. So they ran together. And the other disciple outran Peter and got to the tomb first. And stooping down and looking in, he saw the linen cloths lying there. But he didn't go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. And he saw the linen cloths lying there, and the cloth that had been round his head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who got to the tomb first, went in too. And he saw and believed. Because as yet they didn't understand the scripture, that he had to rise again from the dead. Then the disciples went away again to their own homes.

She turned and said to him, Rabboni — which means Master. Jesus said to her, Don't touch me, because I haven't yet gone up to my Father. But go to my brothers and tell them, I am going up to my Father and your Father, and to my God and your God. Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had said these things to her.

And whoever's sins you retain, they are retained.

And eight days later his disciples were inside again, and Thomas with them. Then Jesus came, though the doors were shut, and stood in the middle and said, Peace be with you. Then he said to Thomas, Put your finger here, and look at my hands. And put out your hand and place it in my side. And don't be unbelieving, but believing. And Thomas answered him, My Lord and my God. Jesus said to him, Thomas, you have believed because you have seen me. Blessed are those who haven't seen and yet have believed. And Jesus did many other signs in front of his disciples, which aren't written in this book. But these are written so you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life through his name.
