The catch of fish
After this Jesus showed himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias. And this is how he showed himself. Simon Peter was there, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples. Simon Peter said to them, I am going fishing. They said to him, We are coming with you. They went out and got into a boat straight away, and that night they caught nothing. But when the morning had come, Jesus stood on the shore. Yet the disciples didn't know it was Jesus. Then Jesus said to them, Children, have you got anything to eat? They answered him, No. And he said to them, Throw the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some. So they threw it, and now they couldn't haul it in for the number of fish. So that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard it was the Lord, he pulled his coat round him — because he had stripped for work — and threw himself into the sea. And the other disciples came in the little boat, dragging the net full of fish, because they weren't far from land, only about a hundred yards. So when they had come to land, they saw a charcoal fire there, with fish on it, and bread. Jesus said to them, Bring some of the fish you have just caught. Simon Peter went up and hauled the net to land, full of large fish — a hundred and fifty-three of them. And with so many, the net wasn't torn. Jesus said to them, Come and have breakfast. And none of the disciples dared ask him, Who are you? — knowing it was the Lord. Then Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and the fish as well. This was now the third time Jesus showed himself to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.

He said to him again, a second time, Simon son of Jonas, do you love me? He said to him, Yes, Lord. You know that I love you. He said to him, Feed my sheep. He said to him the third time, Simon son of Jonas, do you love me? Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, Do you love me? And he said to him, Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you. Jesus said to him, Feed my sheep. I tell you the truth, when you were young you dressed yourself and went where you wanted. But when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and carry you where you don't want to go. He said this to show what kind of death he would glorify God by. And when he had spoken this, he said to him, Follow me. Then Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following — the one who had leaned on his breast at supper and said, Lord, who is it that betrays you? When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, Lord, and what about this man? Jesus said to him, If I want him to stay until I come, what is that to you? You follow me. Then this saying went out among the brothers, that this disciple wouldn't die. Yet Jesus didn't say to him that he wouldn't die, but, If I want him to stay until I come, what is that to you? This is the disciple who bears witness of these things and wrote these things. And we know his witness is true. And there are many other things that Jesus did. If every one of them were written down, I suppose the world itself couldn't hold the books that would be written. Amen.

This is the disciple who bears witness of these things and wrote these things. And we know his witness is true.
