And Shephatiah son of Mattan and Gedaliah son of Pashur and Jukal son of Shelemiah and Pashur son of Malchiah heard the words Jeremiah was saying to all the people: This is what the LORD says. Ebed-Melek pulls him out
Now Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon, while the king was sitting in the gate of Benjamin. So Ebedmelech went out of the king's house and spoke to the king: My lord the king, these men have done wrong in everything they've done to Jeremiah the prophet, throwing him into the cistern. He'll die of hunger where he is, because there's no bread left in the city. Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, “Take thirty men with you from here and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon before he dies.” So Ebedmelech took the men with him and went into the king's house, under the treasury, and took some old rags and worn-out clothes from there and let them down by ropes to Jeremiah in the cistern. Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, “Put these old cast clouts and rotten rags under your armholes, under the cords.” And Jeremiah did so. So they pulled Jeremiah up with ropes and lifted him out of the dungeon. Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.

Then the king ordered Ebed-Melek the Cushite: Take thirty men with you from here and pull Jeremiah the prophet out of the cistern before he dies. So King Zedekiah swore to Jeremiah quietly: As surely as the LORD lives, who made this soul of ours, I won't put you to death and I won't hand you over to these men who are after your life. Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah: This is what the LORD God Almighty, the God of Israel, says. If you'll go out to the officials of the king of Babylon, then your soul will live and this city won't be burnt with fire, and you'll live, you and your household. But if you won't go out to the officials of the king of Babylon, then this city will be handed over to the Chaldeans, and they'll burn it with fire, and you won't escape out of their hand. And King Zedekiah said to Jeremiah: I'm worried about the Jews who've deserted to the Chaldeans, that they'll hand me over to them and they'll knock me about. But Jeremiah said: They won't hand you over. Listen to the voice of the LORD, please, in what I'm telling you. Then it'll go well for you and your soul will live. But if you refuse to go out, this is the word the LORD has shown me: All the women left in the king of Judah’s house will be brought out to the king of Babylon’s princes. Those women will say, “Your close friends have set you on and prevailed against you. Your feet are sunk in the mire, and they have turned away.” They will bring out all your wives and your children to the Chaldeans. You will not escape from their hand, but you will be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon, and you will cause this city to be burned with fire.” Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah: Don't let anyone know about these words, and you won't die. And if the officials hear I've talked with you and they come to you and say, Tell us now what you said to the king and what the king said to you — don't hide it from us and we won't put you to death — Then tell them: I was laying my pleading before the king, that he wouldn't send me back to Jonathan's house to die there. Then all the officials came to Jeremiah and questioned him, and he told them exactly what the king had ordered. So they stopped asking him, because nobody had overheard the conversation. And Jeremiah stayed in the court of the guard until the day Jerusalem was taken. And he was there when Jerusalem was taken.

Then said Zedekiah unto Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and thou shalt not die.
