Two baskets of figs
The LORD showed me, and there were two baskets of figs set before the temple of the LORD, after Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had carried off Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, and the officials of Judah, and the craftsmen and the smiths from Jerusalem, and brought them to Babylon. One basket had very good figs, like figs that ripen first. The other basket had very bad figs, so bad they couldn't be eaten. Then the LORD said to me: What do you see, Jeremiah? And I said: Figs. The good figs are very good, and the bad ones are very bad — so bad they can't be eaten. And the LORD spoke to me: This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Like these good figs, that's how I'll look on those carried off from Judah, those I sent out of this place to the land of the Chaldeans, for good. I'll set my eyes on them for good and bring them back to this land. I'll build them and not pull them down. I'll plant them and not pull them up. And I'll give them a heart to know me, that I'm the LORD. They'll be my people and I'll be their God, because they'll return to me with their whole heart. And like the bad figs that can't be eaten because they're so bad — this is what the LORD says — that's how I'll deal with Zedekiah king of Judah and his officials and the rest of Jerusalem left in this land, and those living in the land of Egypt. I will hand them over to trouble in all the kingdoms of the earth — to be an object of scorn, a byword, a taunt and a curse wherever I drive them. I will send the sword, famine and disease among them until they are consumed from off the land I gave to them and their fathers.

And as the evil figs, which cannot be eaten, they are so evil; surely thus saith the LORD, So will I give Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem, that remain in this land, and them that dwell in the land of Egypt: And I will deliver them to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth for their hurt, to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places whither I shall drive them. And I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, among them, till they be consumed from off the land that I gave unto them and to their fathers.
