The righteous Branch
Trouble is coming to the pastors who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture, declares the LORD. So this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says against the pastors who shepherd my people: You've scattered my flock and driven them off and haven't looked after them. Look: I'll deal with you for the wickedness of what you've done, declares the LORD. And in the prophets of Jerusalem I've seen something horrible — committing adultery and walking in lies. They strengthen the hands of the wicked so nobody turns back from his wickedness. The lot of them are like Sodom to me, and the people living there like Gomorrah. So this is what the LORD Almighty says about the prophets: Look: I'll feed them bitter food and give them poisoned water to drink. Because godlessness has gone out into the whole land from the prophets of Jerusalem. This is what the LORD Almighty says: Don't listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. They're making you empty. They speak a vision out of their own heart, not out of the mouth of the LORD. They keep telling those who sneer at me, The LORD has said, You'll have peace. And to every man walking after the stubbornness of his own heart they say, No trouble will come on you. Because who's stood in the council of the LORD and seen and heard his word? Who's paid attention to his word and listened to it? Look: a whirlwind of the LORD has gone out in fury, a whirling storm. It'll burst on the head of the wicked. The anger of the LORD won't turn back until he's done it and carried out the plans of his heart. In the days to come you'll understand it properly. I didn't send these prophets, and they ran. I didn't speak to them, and they prophesied. But if they'd stood in my council and let my people hear my words, they'd have turned them back from their wicked way and from the wickedness of their doings. “Am I a God close at hand,” says the LORD, “and not a God far away? Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?

But since ye say, The burden of the LORD; therefore thus saith the LORD; Because ye say this word, The burden of the LORD, and I have sent unto you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of the LORD;
So look, I'll thoroughly forget you, and I'll throw you and the city I gave you and your fathers out of my sight.

Therefore, behold, I, even I, will utterly forget you, and I will forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, and cast you out of my presence:
And I'll put on you everlasting insults and everlasting shame that won't be forgotten.
And I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame, which shall not be forgotten.
