The words of this covenant
The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: Listen to the words of this covenant and tell them to the men of Judah and the people of Jerusalem. Tell them: This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says. Cursed is the man who doesn't listen to the words of this covenant That I ordered your fathers on the day I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace, saying: Listen to my voice and do everything I order you, and you'll be my people and I'll be your God — So I can keep the oath I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, like it is today. Then I answered: Amen, Lord. And the LORD said to me: Cry out all these words in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. Say: Listen to the words of this covenant and do them. Because I warned your fathers over and over from the day I brought them up out of the land of Egypt right up to today. I rose early and warned them: Listen to my voice. But they didn't listen and didn't turn their ear. Every one of them walked in the stubbornness of his wicked heart. So I brought on them all the words of this covenant that I ordered them to do and they wouldn't. And the LORD said to me: There's a plot among the men of Judah and the people of Jerusalem. They've gone back to the wrongdoing of their forefathers, who refused to listen to my words. They've gone after other gods to serve them. The people of Israel and the people of Judah have broken my covenant that I made with their fathers. So this is what the LORD says: Look: I'm bringing trouble on them that they won't be able to get out of. And they'll cry out to me and I won't listen to them. Then the cities of Judah and the people of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods they burn incense to — and they won't save them at all in the time of their trouble. Because you have as many gods as you have cities, Judah. And you've set up as many altars to the shameful thing as there are streets in Jerusalem — altars to burn incense to Baal. So don't pray for this people. Don't lift up a cry or a prayer for them, because I won't listen when they call to me in the time of their trouble. What is my beloved doing in my house, seeing she has committed lewdness with many? Can the holy flesh take your evil away? When you do evil, then you rejoice. The LORD called your name a green olive tree, lovely with good fruit. With the roar of a great noise he's set fire to it, and its branches are broken. The LORD Almighty, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you because of the evil of the people of Israel and the people of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger by offering incense to Baal.

The Lord called your name a green olive tree, lovely with good fruit. With the roar of a great noise he's set fire to it, and its branches are broken. The Lord Almighty, who planted you, has spoken trouble against you, because of the wickedness of the house of Israel and the house of Judah, which they did to themselves to make me angry by burning incense to Baal.

Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD. Then the LORD said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them. For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice. Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do: but they did them not. And the LORD said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem. They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers. Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them. Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble. For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto Baal. Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble. Tell them: This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says. Cursed is the man who doesn't listen to the words of this covenant
And say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,
That I ordered your fathers on the day I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace, saying: Listen to my voice and do everything I order you, and you'll be my people and I'll be your God —
that I ordered your fathers on the day I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace, saying: Listen to my voice and do everything I order you, and you'll be my people and I'll be your God —
Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:
So I can keep the oath I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, like it is today. Then I answered: Amen, Lord.
so I can keep the oath I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, like it is today. Then I answered: Amen, Lord.
That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD.
And the LORD said to me: Cry out all these words in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. Say: Listen to the words of this covenant and do them.
And the Lord said to me: Call out all these words in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. Say: Listen to the words of this covenant and do them.
Then the LORD said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.
Because I warned your fathers over and over from the day I brought them up out of the land of Egypt right up to today. I rose early and warned them: Listen to my voice.
Because I warned your fathers over and over from the day I brought them up out of the land of Egypt right up to today. I got up early and warned them: Listen to my voice.
For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.
But they didn't listen and didn't turn their ear. Every one of them walked in the stubbornness of his wicked heart. So I brought on them all the words of this covenant that I ordered them to do and they wouldn't.
Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do: but they did them not.
And the LORD said to me: There's a plot among the men of Judah and the people of Jerusalem.
And the Lord said to me: There's a plot among the men of Judah and the people of Jerusalem.
And the LORD said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
They've gone back to the wrongdoing of their forefathers, who refused to listen to my words. They've gone after other gods to serve them. The people of Israel and the people of Judah have broken my covenant that I made with their fathers.
They've gone back to the wrongdoing of their forefathers, who refused to listen to my words. They've gone after other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant that I made with their fathers.
They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
So this is what the LORD says: Look: I'm bringing trouble on them that they won't be able to get out of. And they'll cry out to me and I won't listen to them.
So this is what the Lord says: Look — I'm bringing trouble on them that they won't be able to get out of. And they'll cry out to me and I won't listen to them.
Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.
Then the cities of Judah and the people of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods they burn incense to — and they won't save them at all in the time of their trouble.
Then the towns of Judah and the people of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods they burn incense to — and they won't save them at all in the time of their trouble.
Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.
Because you have as many gods as you have cities, Judah. And you've set up as many altars to the shameful thing as there are streets in Jerusalem — altars to burn incense to Baal.
Because you've got as many gods as you've got towns, Judah. And you've set up as many altars to the shameful thing as there are streets in Jerusalem — altars to burn incense to Baal.
For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto Baal.
So don't pray for this people. Don't lift up a cry or a prayer for them, because I won't listen when they call to me in the time of their trouble.
Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.
What is my beloved doing in my house, seeing she has committed lewdness with many? Can the holy flesh take your evil away? When you do evil, then you rejoice.
What's my beloved doing in my house, seeing she's done so many rotten things? Can holy meat get the trouble off you? When you do wrong, that's when you celebrate.
What hath my beloved to do in mine house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.

A gentle lamb led to the slaughter
The LORD let me know it, and I knew. Then you showed me what they were doing. And I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter, and I didn't know they'd made plans against me: Let's destroy the tree with its fruit. Let's cut him off from the land of the living, so his name isn't remembered any more. But LORD Almighty, you judge rightly and test the heart and the mind. Let me see your vengeance on them, because I've laid out my case before you. So this is what the LORD says about the men of Anathoth who are after your life and saying, Don't prophesy in the name of the LORD or you'll die by our hand — This is what the LORD Almighty says: Look: I'll deal with them. The young men will die by the sword. Their sons and their daughters will die of famine. There'll be nothing left of them, because I'll bring trouble on the men of Anathoth in the year they're dealt with.
The Lord let me know it, and I knew. Then you showed me what they were doing. And I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter, and I didn't know they'd made plans against me: Let's wreck the tree with its fruit. Let's cut him off from the land of the living, so his name isn't remembered any more. But Lord Almighty, you judge rightly and test the heart and the mind. Let me see your settling up on them, because I've laid out my case in front of you. So this is what the Lord says about the men of Anathoth who are after your life and saying, Don't prophesy in the name of the Lord or you'll die by our hand — this is what the Lord Almighty says: Look — I'll deal with them. The young men will die by the sword. Their sons and their daughters will die of famine. There'll be nothing left of them, because I'll bring trouble on the men of Anathoth in the year they're dealt with.
And the LORD hath given me knowledge of it, and I know it: then thou shewedst me their doings. But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered. But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause. Therefore thus saith the LORD of the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Prophesy not in the name of the LORD, that thou die not by our hand: Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine: And there shall be no remnant of them: for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.
The LORD let me know it, and I knew. Then you showed me what they were doing.
