Lord, you're in the right when I bring a case to you. Even so, let me put my judgments to you: why does the way of the wicked go well? Why are all the treacherous ones at ease? You planted them and they've taken root. They grow and they bear fruit. You're near their mouth and a long way off from their heart. But you know me, Lord. You see me and you test my heart towards you. Pull them out like sheep for the slaughter and set them apart for the day of killing. How long will the land mourn and the grass of every field wither? The animals and the birds are finished because of the wickedness of the people living there — because they said, He won't see how it ends for us. If running with the footmen has worn you out, how will you race with horses? And if you feel safe only in a land of peace, what will you do in the swelling of Jordan? Because even your brothers and your father's household — even they've dealt treacherously with you. Even they've called out loud after you. Don't believe them when they speak nicely to you.

Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard. They have trampled my portion underfoot and made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness. They've made it a desolation. It mourns to me, destroyed. The whole land is destroyed, because there's not a man who takes it to heart. The destroyers have come on all the bare heights in the wilderness, because the sword of the LORD eats from one end of the land to the other. Nothing that lives has any peace. They've sown wheat and reaped thorns. They've worn themselves out for nothing. So be ashamed of your harvest, because of the fierce anger of the LORD.
