Seven days

Then the Lord said to Noah, “Go into the boat, you and your whole household, because I've found you righteous in this generation. Take seven pairs of every clean animal, male and female, and one pair of every unclean animal, male and female, and seven pairs of every kind of bird as well, male and female, to keep their line going over the face of the earth. Seven days from now I'll send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I'll wipe every living thing I've made off the face of the earth.” And Noah did everything the Lord told him.

And Noah did everything the Lord told him.

In they go

Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwater came over the earth. And Noah went into the boat with his sons and his wife and his sons' wives, out of the way of the water. Clean animals and unclean, birds and everything that moves along the ground, came to Noah in twos and went into the boat, male and female, just as God had told him. And after the seven days, the floodwater came over the earth.

The deep bursts open

In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second month, all the springs of the great deep burst open, and the windows of the sky were thrown wide. And the rain fell on the earth for forty days and forty nights. On that very day Noah went into the boat with Shem, Ham and Japheth his sons, and his wife, and the three wives of his sons. They went in, and every wild animal of its kind, every head of livestock of its kind, everything that moves along the ground of its kind, and every bird of its kind — everything with wings. In they came to Noah, into the boat, two by two, everything with the breath of life in it. Male and female of everything went in, just as God had told him. And the Lord shut him in.

The water rises

The flood kept coming for forty days, and the water rose and lifted the boat high off the ground. The water rose and rose, and the boat drifted on the surface of it. The water rose higher and higher until it covered every high mountain under the whole sky. It rose fifteen cubits above the mountains, and covered them.

Everything died

And every living thing that moved on the earth died — birds, livestock, wild animals, everything that swarms on the ground, and every person. Everything on dry land with the breath of life in its nostrils died. Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out — people and animals and things that move on the ground and birds in the sky. They were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the boat. And the water was over the earth for a hundred and fifty days.
