People began to multiply on the earth, and daughters were born to them. And the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they took whichever ones they chose as wives. And the Lord said, “My spirit won't put up with people forever. They're flesh. Their days will be a hundred and twenty years.” There were giants on the earth in those days, and afterwards as well, when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men with a name.

And the Lord saw how bad people had got on the earth — that every thought they had, all day long, was nothing but bad. And the Lord was sorry He'd made people on the earth, and it grieved Him to the heart. And the Lord said, “I'll wipe the people I made off the face of the earth — people and animals and things that move on the ground and birds in the sky. I'm sorry I made them.” But Noah found favour with the Lord.
And the Lord saw how bad people had got on the earth — that every thought they had, all day long, was nothing but bad.
And the Lord was sorry He'd made people on the earth, and it grieved Him to the heart.
And the Lord said, “I'll wipe the people I made off the face of the earth — people and animals and things that move on the ground and birds in the sky. I'm sorry I made them.”
But Noah found favour with the Lord.

This is the story of Noah. Noah was a good man, blameless among the people of his time, and Noah walked with God. Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. The earth was rotten in God's sight, and full of violence. God looked at the earth and saw that it was rotten, because everyone alive had corrupted their way.

Build a boat
So God said to Noah, “I'm going to put an end to everyone. The earth is full of violence because of them, and I'm going to destroy them along with it. Make yourself a boat out of cypress wood. Put rooms in it, and coat it with pitch inside and out. Build it like this: three hundred cubits long, fifty wide, thirty high. Put a roof on it and finish it to within a cubit of the top. Put a door in the side, and give it a lower deck, a middle deck and an upper deck. I'm going to bring floodwater over the earth to destroy every living thing with the breath of life in it. Everything on the earth will die. But I'll set up my covenant with you. You'll go into the boat — you and your sons and your wife and your sons' wives with you. And bring two of every living thing into the boat, a male and a female, to keep them alive with you. Two of every kind of bird, every kind of animal, every kind of thing that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. And take every kind of food that gets eaten, and store it away. It'll be food for you and for them.” And Noah did it. He did everything God told him.
