Cain and Abel
And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she fell pregnant and had Cain. And she said: I've got myself a man, with the Lord's help. And she had his brother Abel after. Abel ran sheep, and Cain worked the ground. And after a while Cain brought some of what he'd grown as an offering to the Lord. And Abel brought the pick of his flock, the fat of them. And the Lord looked well on Abel and his offering. But on Cain and his offering he didn't look. Cain was furious, and his face fell. And the Lord said to Cain: Why are you angry? And why has your face fallen? If you do the right thing, you'll be right, won't you? And if you don't — sin's crouched at the door, waiting on you. It wants you. But you've got to get on top of it. And Cain talked with Abel his brother. And while they were out in the field, Cain turned on Abel his brother and killed him. And the Lord said to Cain: Where's your brother Abel? And he said: How would I know? Am I my brother's keeper? And he said: What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground. And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. When you work the ground it won't give you a thing any more. You'll be on the move the rest of your days, with nowhere to call home. And Cain said to the Lord: This is more than I can wear. Look — you've run me off the land today, and I'll be hidden from your face. I'll be on the move with nowhere to call home, and whoever comes across me will kill me. And the Lord said to him: Not so. Anyone who kills Cain will cop it back seven times over. And the Lord put a mark on Cain, so nobody who came across him would touch him. And Cain cleared out from the presence of the Lord and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

And if you don't do well, sin lies at the door. And what it wants is towards you, but you'll rule over it. And Cain talked with Abel his brother. And when they were in the field, Cain got up against Abel his brother and killed him. And the Lord said to Cain: Where's Abel your brother? And he said: I don't know. Am I my brother's keeper? And he said: What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground. And now you're cursed from the earth, that's opened her mouth to take your brother's blood from your hand. When you work the ground, it won't give you its strength any more. You'll be a runaway and a wanderer on the earth. And Cain said to the Lord: My punishment is more than I can carry. Look — you've driven me out today from the face of the earth, and I'll be hidden from your face. And I'll be a runaway and a wanderer on the earth. And whoever finds me will kill me. And the Lord said to him: So whoever kills Cain, it'll be paid back on him seven times. And the Lord set a mark on Cain, so nobody who found him would kill him. And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper? And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground. And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand; When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth. And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear. Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me. And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him. And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

If you do the right thing, you'll be right, won't you? And if you don't — sin's crouched at the door, waiting on you. It wants you. But you've got to get on top of it.

And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.

And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;
When you work the ground it won't give you a thing any more. You'll be on the move the rest of your days, with nowhere to call home.

When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

And his brother's name was Jubal. He was the father of all who play the harp and the pipe. And Zillah had Tubalcain as well, who could turn his hand to any tool of bronze or iron. And Tubalcain's sister was Naamah. And Lamech said to his wives: Adah and Zillah, listen to me. Wives of Lamech, hear my words. I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man for striking me. If Cain will be paid back seven times over, then Lamech seventy-seven. And Adam slept with his wife again, and she had a son and called him Seth. Because God has given me another in place of Abel, the one Cain killed. And Seth had a son too, and called him Enos. That's when men started calling on the name of the Lord.
