Four kings against five
In the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Kedorlaomer king of Elam and Tidal king of Goyim, these kings went to war against Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboyim, and the king of Bela (that's Zoar). All of these joined forces in the Valley of Siddim — the Salt Sea. For twelve years they'd been under Kedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth they rebelled. In the fourteenth year Kedorlaomer and the kings with him came out and beat the Rephaites at Ashteroth-Karnaim, the Zuzites at Ham, the Emites at Shaveh-Kiriathaim, and the Horites in the hill country of Seir, as far as El-Paran out near the desert. Then they turned back and came to En-Mishpat — that's Kadesh — and overran the whole country of the Amalekites, and the Amorites living at Hazezon-Tamar as well. Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboyim and the king of Bela (that's Zoar) marched out and lined up for battle in the Valley of Siddim against Kedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goyim, Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar — four kings against five.

Lot taken
The Valley of Siddim was full of tar pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah ran, some of the men went into them. The rest got away to the hills. The four kings took everything Sodom and Gomorrah had, and all their food, and left. And they took Lot, Abram's nephew, who was living in Sodom, and everything he owned, and away they went.
The Valley of Siddim was full of tar pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah ran, some of the men went into them. The rest got away to the hills.

And they took Lot, Abram's nephew, who was living in Sodom, and everything he owned, and away they went.
Abram goes after them
One bloke got away and came and told Abram the Hebrew. Abram was camped by the great trees of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshkol and Aner, who were allies of his. When Abram heard his nephew had been taken, he called out the three hundred and eighteen trained men born in his household, and went after them as far as Dan. He split his forces during the night, he and his men, hit them, and chased them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus. He got everything back — and he got Lot back too, with his possessions, and the women and the other people.

And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, and he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, maker of heaven and earth. And blessed be God Most High, who handed your enemies over to you.” And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

Not a thread
The king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people, and keep the goods for yourself.” But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I've raised my hand to the Lord, God Most High, maker of heaven and earth, and I've sworn that I won't take a thread or a sandal strap — not one thing that's yours. You're not going to be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’ I'll take nothing, except what my men have eaten, and the share belonging to Aner, Eshkol and Mamre, who came with me. Let them take theirs.”
The king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people, and keep the goods for yourself.”
But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I've raised my hand to the Lord, God Most High, maker of heaven and earth, and I've sworn
that I won't take a thread or a sandal strap — not one thing that's yours. You're not going to be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’
I'll take nothing, except what my men have eaten, and the share belonging to Aner, Eshkol and Mamre, who came with me. Let them take theirs.”
