The call of Abram
Now the Lord had said to Abram: Get out of this country of yours, away from your own people and your father's house, and go to a land I'll show you. And I'll make a great nation of you. I'll bless you and make your name a big one, and you'll be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and curse the one who curses you. And through you all the families of the earth will be blessed. So Abram went, just as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five when he cleared out of Haran. And Abram took Sarai his wife, Lot his brother's son, all the possessions they had gathered, and the people they had acquired in Haran. They set out for the land of Canaan, and into the land of Canaan they came. And Abram went on through the country as far as the place called Sichem, to the oak of Moreh. The Canaanites were in the land at the time. And the Lord appeared to Abram and said: I'll give this land to your offspring. So he built an altar there to the Lord, who'd appeared to him. And he shifted on from there to the hill country east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel to the west and Hai to the east. And he built an altar there to the Lord and called on his name. And Abram kept pushing on, working his way down south.
Now the Lord said to Abram: Get out of your country and from your family and from your father's house, to a land I'll show you. And they went out to go into the land of Canaan, and they came into the land of Canaan. And Abram went through the land to the place of Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. And the Canaanite was in the land then. And the Lord showed himself to Abram and said: I'll give this land to your offspring. And there he built an altar to the Lord, who'd shown himself to him. And he moved from there to a mountain east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord. And Abram went on, still going towards the south.

And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land. And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him. And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD. And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.

So Abram went, just as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five when he cleared out of Haran.

So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

Abram in Egypt
And there was a famine in the land. So Abram went down to Egypt to sit it out, because the famine was biting hard. And when he was getting close to Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife: Now listen — I know you're a fine-looking woman, and there's the trouble. So when the Egyptians cop a look at you they'll say: That's his wife. And they'll do me in and keep you alive. Please say you are my sister, so things will go well for me because of you, and my life will be spared for your sake. And when Abram came into Egypt, the Egyptians saw the woman was a real looker. And Pharaoh's men saw her and talked her up to Pharaoh, and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house. And Pharaoh treated Abram well because of her. He had sheep and cattle, donkeys, servants and maids, she-donkeys and camels. And the Lord struck Pharaoh and his household with heavy plagues over Sarai, Abram's wife. And Pharaoh called Abram in and said: What's this you've done to me? Why didn't you let on she was your wife? Why tell me she's your sister, and let me take her for myself? There's your wife. Take her and go. And Pharaoh gave his men orders about him, and they sent him on his way, him and his wife and everything he had.
And there was a famine in the land. And Abram went down into Egypt to stay there, because the famine was bad in the land. And when he'd come near to go into Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife: Look now — I know you're a good-looking woman. So when the Egyptians see you, they'll say: This is his wife. And they'll kill me, but they'll keep you alive. Say you're my sister, please, so it goes well with me for your sake, and my soul will live because of you. And when Abram came into Egypt, the Egyptians saw the woman, that she was very good-looking. The leaders of Pharaoh saw her too and praised her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house. And he treated Abram well for her sake. And he had sheep and oxen and male donkeys, and servants and servant women, and female donkeys and camels. And the Lord struck Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife. And Pharaoh called Abram and said: What's this you've done to me? Why didn't you tell me she was your wife? Why did you say, She's my sister, so I took her to be my wife? So now look — here's your wife. Take her and go your way. And Pharaoh gave orders to his men about him, and they sent him away, and his wife and everything he had.

And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon: Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive. Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee. And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair. The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house. And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels. And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram’s wife. And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife? Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way. And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.

Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
Please say you are my sister, so things will go well for me because of you, and my life will be spared for your sake.
Say you're my sister, please, so it goes well with me for your sake, and my soul will live because of you.
Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
And when Abram came into Egypt, the Egyptians saw the woman was a real looker.
