Digging through the wall

And the LORD spoke to me: “Son of man, you live in the middle of a rebellious house. They have eyes to see but do not see, and ears to hear but do not hear, because they are a rebellious house. So you, son of man, get your gear ready for going into exile, and shift in the daytime before their eyes. Shift from your place to another place before their eyes. Maybe they'll think about it, even though they're a rebellious house. So bring your gear out by day before their eyes, like gear for exile. And you'll go out in the evening before their eyes, like men going out into exile. Dig through the wall before their eyes and carry it out through there. Before their eyes you'll lift it on your shoulder and carry it out in the dark. You'll cover your face so you can't see the ground. Because I've made you a sign to the people of Israel. And I did what I was ordered. I brought my gear out by day like gear for exile, and in the evening I dug through the wall with my hand. I brought it out in the dark and carried it on my shoulder before their eyes. And in the morning the LORD spoke to me: Son of man, hasn't the people of Israel, the rebellious house, said to you: What are you doing? Say to them: This is what the Lord GOD says. This load is about the prince in Jerusalem and the whole people of Israel that's among them. Say: I'm a sign to you. What I've done is what'll be done to them. They'll shift and go into exile. And the prince among them will carry it on his shoulder in the dark and go out. They'll dig through the wall to carry it out. He'll cover his face so he can't see the ground with his eyes. And I'll spread my net over him, and he'll be caught in my trap. And I'll bring him to Babylon in the land of the Chaldeans, and he won't see it, though he'll die there. And I'll scatter to every wind everyone round him to help him, and all his troops. And I'll pull out a sword after them. And they'll know that I'm the LORD, when I scatter them among the nations and spread them through the countries. But I'll leave a few men of them from the sword and the famine and the plague — so they can tell out all their disgusting things among the nations they go to. And they'll know that I'm the LORD.

And the word of the Lord came to me: Son of man, you live in the middle of a rebellious house, who've got eyes to see and don't see, ears to hear and don't hear. Because they're a rebellious house. So you, son of man, get your gear ready for going into exile, and shift in the daytime in front of their eyes. Shift from your place to another place in front of their eyes. Maybe they'll think about it, even though they're a rebellious house. So bring your gear out by day in front of their eyes, like gear for exile. And you'll go out in the evening in front of their eyes, like men going out into exile. Dig through the wall in front of their eyes and carry it out through there. In front of their eyes you'll lift it on your shoulder and carry it out in the dark. You'll cover your face so you can't see the ground. Because I've made you a sign to the house of Israel. And I did what I was ordered. I brought my gear out by day like gear for exile, and in the evening I dug through the wall with my hand. I brought it out in the dark and carried it on my shoulder in front of their eyes. And in the morning the word of the Lord came to me: Son of man, hasn't the house of Israel, the rebellious house, said to you: What are you doing? Say to them: This is what the Lord God says. And the leader among them will carry it on his shoulder in the dark and go out. They'll dig through the wall to carry it out. He'll cover his face so he can't see the ground with his eyes. But I'll leave a few men of them from the sword and the famine and the plague — so they can tell out all their disgusting things among the nations they go to. And they'll know that I'm the Lord.

The word of the LORD also came unto me, saying, Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a rebellious house. Therefore, thou son of man, prepare thee stuff for removing, and remove by day in their sight; and thou shalt remove from thy place to another place in their sight: it may be they will consider, though they be a rebellious house. Then shalt thou bring forth thy stuff by day in their sight, as stuff for removing: and thou shalt go forth at even in their sight, as they that go forth into captivity. Dig thou through the wall in their sight, and carry out thereby. In their sight shalt thou bear it upon thy shoulders, and carry it forth in the twilight: thou shalt cover thy face, that thou see not the ground: for I have set thee for a sign unto the house of Israel. And I did so as I was commanded: I brought forth my stuff by day, as stuff for captivity, and in the even I digged through the wall with mine hand; I brought it forth in the twilight, and I bare it upon my shoulder in their sight. And in the morning came the word of the LORD unto me, saying, Son of man, hath not the house of Israel, the rebellious house, said unto thee, What doest thou? Say thou unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; This burden concerneth the prince in Jerusalem, and all the house of Israel that are among them. Say, I am your sign: like as I have done, so shall it be done unto them: they shall remove and go into captivity. And the prince that is among them shall bear upon his shoulder in the twilight, and shall go forth: they shall dig through the wall to carry out thereby: he shall cover his face, that he see not the ground with his eyes. My net also will I spread upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare: and I will bring him to Babylon to the land of the Chaldeans; yet shall he not see it, though he shall die there. And I will scatter toward every wind all that are about him to help him, and all his bands; and I will draw out the sword after them. And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall scatter them among the nations, and disperse them in the countries. But I will leave a few men of them from the sword, from the famine, and from the pestilence; that they may declare all their abominations among the heathen whither they come; and they shall know that I am the LORD.

No more delay

And the LORD spoke to me: Son of man, eat your bread with shaking, and drink your water with trembling and worry. And say to the people of the land: This is what the Lord GOD says about the people of Jerusalem and the land of Israel. They'll eat their bread with worry and drink their water in shock, because their land will be stripped of everything in it, because of the violence of everyone living there. And the cities where people live will be laid waste, and the land will be a desolation. And you'll know that I'm the LORD. And the LORD spoke to me: Son of man, what's this saying you have in the land of Israel: The days drag on and every vision comes to nothing? So tell them: This is what the Lord GOD says. I'll put a stop to this saying, and they won't use it as a saying in Israel any more. Tell them instead: The days are close, and the word of every vision. Because there'll be no empty vision or smooth fortune-telling any more inside the people of Israel. Because I'm the LORD. I'll speak, and the word I speak will be done. It won't drag on any longer. Because in your days, rebellious house, I'll speak the word and do it, says the Lord GOD. And the LORD spoke to me: Son of man, look: the people of Israel are saying, 'The vision he sees is about the distant future, and he's prophesying about times a long way off.' So tell them: This is what the Lord GOD says. None of my words will drag on any longer. The word I've spoken will be done, says the Lord GOD.

And the word of the Lord came to me: Son of man, eat your bread with shaking, and drink your water with trembling and worry. And say to the people of the land: This is what the Lord God says about the people of Jerusalem and the land of Israel. They'll eat their bread with worry and drink their water in shock, because their land will be stripped of everything in it, because of the violence of everyone living there. And the towns where people live will be laid waste, and the land will be a wreck. And you'll know that I'm the Lord. And the word of the Lord came to me: Son of man, what's this saying you've got in the land of Israel: The days drag on and every vision comes to nothing? So tell them: This is what the Lord God says. Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Son of man, eat thy bread with quaking, and drink thy water with trembling and with carefulness; And say unto the people of the land, Thus saith the Lord GOD of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and of the land of Israel; They shall eat their bread with carefulness, and drink their water with astonishment, that her land may be desolate from all that is therein, because of the violence of all them that dwell therein. And the cities that are inhabited shall be laid waste, and the land shall be desolate; and ye shall know that I am the LORD. And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, what is that proverb that ye have in the land of Israel, saying, The days are prolonged, and every vision faileth? Tell them therefore, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will make this proverb to cease, and they shall no more use it as a proverb in Israel; but say unto them, The days are at hand, and the effect of every vision. For there shall be no more any vain vision nor flattering divination within the house of Israel. For I am the LORD: I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall be no more prolonged: for in your days, O rebellious house, will I say the word, and will perform it, saith the Lord GOD. Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Son of man, behold, they of the house of Israel say, The vision that he seeth is for many days to come, and he prophesieth of the times that are far off. Therefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; There shall none of my words be prolonged any more, but the word which I have spoken shall be done, saith the Lord GOD.
