Prophets out of their own heart
And the LORD spoke to me: Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who prophesy, and say to those who prophesy out of their own heart: Listen to the word of the LORD. This is what the Lord GOD says: “Trouble is coming to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing. Israel, your prophets are like foxes in the ruins. You haven't gone up into the gaps or built up the fence for the people of Israel, so they'd stand in the battle on the day of the LORD. They've seen empty things and lying fortune-telling, saying, The LORD says — and the LORD hasn't sent them. And they've made others hope the word would stand. Haven't you seen an empty vision and spoken lying fortune-telling, when you say, The LORD says — and I haven't spoken? So this is what the Lord GOD says: Because you've spoken emptiness and seen lies, look: I'm against you, says the Lord GOD. And my hand will be against the prophets who see emptiness and tell lying fortunes. They won't be in the council of my people or written in the register of the people of Israel, and they won't come into the land of Israel. And you'll know that I'm the Lord GOD. Because they've led my people astray, saying Peace when there's no peace. And when one of them builds a flimsy wall, look: the others whitewash it. Tell those who whitewash it that it'll fall. There'll be a flooding rain, and you hailstones will fall, and a stormy wind will split it apart. And look: when the wall has fallen, won't people say to you: Where's the whitewash you put on it? So this is what the Lord GOD says: I'll split it apart with a stormy wind in my fury, and there'll be a flooding rain in my anger, and hailstones in fury to destroy it. So I'll pull down the wall you've whitewashed and bring it right down to the ground, so its foundation shows. And it'll fall, and you'll be finished in the middle of it. And you'll know that I'm the LORD. In this way I will accomplish my anger upon the wall and upon those who whitewashed it. I will say to you: The wall is no more, neither are those who whitewashed it — The prophets of Israel who prophesy about Jerusalem and see visions of peace for her when there's no peace, says the Lord GOD.
And the word of the Lord came to me: Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who prophesy, and say to the ones who prophesy out of their own heart: Listen to the word of the Lord. This is what the Lord God says: Trouble is coming to the stupid prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing. Israel, your prophets are like foxes in the ruins. You haven't gone up into the gaps or built up the fence for the house of Israel, so they'd stand in the battle on the day of the Lord. So this is what the Lord God says: I'll split it apart with a stormy wind in my fury, and there'll be a flooding rain in my anger, and hailstones in fury to finish it off. So I'll pull down the wall you've whitewashed and bring it right down to the ground, so its foundation shows. And it'll fall, and you'll be finished in the middle of it. And you'll know that I'm the Lord. That's how I'll finish my fury on the wall and on the ones who whitewashed it. And I'll say to you: The wall isn't there any more, and the ones who whitewashed it aren't — the prophets of Israel who prophesy about Jerusalem and see visions of peace for her when there's no peace, says the Lord God.
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say thou unto them that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing! O Israel, thy prophets are like the foxes in the deserts. Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD. They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word. Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The LORD saith it; albeit I have not spoken? Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord GOD. And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD. Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter: Say unto them which daub it with untempered morter, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall rend it. Lo, when the wall is fallen, shall it not be said unto you, Where is the daubing wherewith ye have daubed it? Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even rend it with a stormy wind in my fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger, and great hailstones in my fury to consume it. So will I break down the wall that ye have daubed with untempered morter, and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation thereof shall be discovered, and it shall fall, and ye shall be consumed in the midst thereof: and ye shall know that I am the LORD. Thus will I accomplish my wrath upon the wall, and upon them that have daubed it with untempered morter, and will say unto you, The wall is no more, neither they that daubed it; To wit, the prophets of Israel which prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and which see visions of peace for her, and there is no peace, saith the Lord GOD.

They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word.
Haven't you seen an empty vision and spoken lying fortune-telling, when you say, The LORD says — and I haven't spoken?

The prophets of Israel who prophesy about Jerusalem and see visions of peace for her when there's no peace, says the Lord GOD.
the prophets of Israel who prophesy about Jerusalem and see visions of peace for her when there's no peace, says the Lord God.
To wit, the prophets of Israel which prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and which see visions of peace for her, and there is no peace, saith the Lord GOD.
The women who sew charms
And you, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who prophesy out of their own heart, and prophesy against them. And say: This is what the Lord GOD says. Trouble is coming to the women who sew charms on all their wrists and make veils for heads of every size, to hunt souls. Will you hunt the souls of my people and keep your own souls alive? And will you make me common among my people for a handful of barley and bits of bread, killing the souls that shouldn't die and keeping alive the souls that shouldn't live, by lying to my people who listen to lies? So this is what the Lord GOD says: Look: I'm against your charms that you hunt souls with to make them fly. And I'll tear them off your arms, and let the souls go — the souls you hunt to make them fly. I'll tear your veils off too and get my people out of your hand, and they won't be in your hand to be hunted any more. And you'll know that I'm the LORD. Because you've made the heart of the righteous sad with lies when I hadn't made him sad, and made the hands of the wicked strong so he wouldn't turn from his wicked way and be kept alive — So you will see false visions no more or divine divinations. I will deliver my people out of your hand, and you will know that I am the LORD.”
So this is what the Lord God says: Look — I'm against your charms that you hunt souls with to make them fly. And I'll tear them off your arms, and let the souls go — the souls you hunt to make them fly. I'll tear your veils off too and get my people out of your hand, and they won't be in your hand to be hunted any more. And you'll know that I'm the Lord. Because you've made the heart of the righteous sad with lies when I hadn't made him sad, and made the hands of the wicked strong so he wouldn't turn from his wicked way and be kept alive — so you won't see empty things or tell fortunes any more. And I'll get my people out of your hand, and you'll know that I'm the Lord.
Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, which prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy thou against them, And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the women that sew pillows to all armholes, and make kerchiefs upon the head of every stature to hunt souls! Will ye hunt the souls of my people, and will ye save the souls alive that come unto you? And will ye pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies? Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against your pillows, wherewith ye there hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that ye hunt to make them fly. Your kerchiefs also will I tear, and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand to be hunted; and ye shall know that I am the LORD. Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life: Therefore ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine divinations: for I will deliver my people out of your hand: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
And you, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who prophesy out of their own heart, and prophesy against them.
Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, which prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy thou against them,
And say: This is what the Lord GOD says. Trouble is coming to the women who sew charms on all their wrists and make veils for heads of every size, to hunt souls. Will you hunt the souls of my people and keep your own souls alive?
And say: This is what the Lord God says. Trouble is coming to the women who sew charms on all their wrists and make veils for heads of every size, to hunt souls. Will you hunt the souls of my people and keep your own souls alive?

So this is what the Lord God says: Look — I'm against your charms that you hunt souls with to make them fly. And I'll tear them off your arms, and let the souls go — the souls you hunt to make them fly.
Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against your pillows, wherewith ye there hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that ye hunt to make them fly.
I'll tear your veils off too and get my people out of your hand, and they won't be in your hand to be hunted any more. And you'll know that I'm the LORD.
I'll tear your veils off too and get my people out of your hand, and they won't be in your hand to be hunted any more. And you'll know that I'm the Lord.
Your kerchiefs also will I tear, and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand to be hunted; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
Because you've made the heart of the righteous sad with lies when I hadn't made him sad, and made the hands of the wicked strong so he wouldn't turn from his wicked way and be kept alive —
Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:
So you will see false visions no more or divine divinations. I will deliver my people out of your hand, and you will know that I am the LORD.”
so you won't see empty things or tell fortunes any more. And I'll get my people out of your hand, and you'll know that I'm the Lord.
Therefore ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine divinations: for I will deliver my people out of your hand: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
