He'll bring you back

When all these things have come on you — the blessing and the curse I have set before you — and you call them to mind among all the nations where the Lord your God has driven you, and you return to the Lord your God and obey his voice with all your heart and all your soul, you and your children, according to everything I command you today, then the Lord your God will turn your captivity, have compassion on you, and return and gather you from all the nations where the Lord your God has scattered you. Even if some of you are driven out to the farthest parts of heaven, the Lord your God will gather you from there and fetch you from there. The Lord your God will bring you into the land your fathers possessed, and you will possess it. He will do you good and multiply you above your fathers. The Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, so you may love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul, that you may live. The Lord your God will put all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you and persecuted you. You will return and obey the voice of the Lord and do all his commandments that I command you today. The Lord your God will make you plenteous in every work of your hand, in the fruit of your body, the fruit of your cattle and the fruit of your land, for good. The Lord will again rejoice over you for good, as he rejoiced over your fathers, if you listen to the voice of the Lord your God, keep his commandments and rules written in this book of the law, and turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul.

And when all these things have come on you, the blessing and the curse I've set in front of you, and you bring them back to mind among all the nations the Lord your God has driven you to — and you turn back to the Lord your God and listen to his voice, according to everything I'm ordering you today, you and your children, with your whole heart and your whole soul — then the Lord your God will bring you back from where you've been taken and have mercy on you. And he'll come back and gather you from all the nations the Lord your God has scattered you among. Even if you've been driven out to the far end of the sky, the Lord your God will gather you from there and get you from there. And the Lord your God will bring you into the land your fathers owned, and you'll own it. And he'll do you good and make you more than your fathers. And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, so you love the Lord your God with your whole heart and your whole soul, so you live. And the Lord your God will put all these curses on the ones against you and on the ones who hate you, who chased you. And you'll come back and listen to the voice of the Lord and do all his orders that I'm ordering you today. And the Lord your God will give you plenty in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your body and in the fruit of your cattle and in the fruit of your land, for good. Because the Lord will celebrate over you again for good, the way he celebrated over your fathers — if you listen to the voice of the Lord your God, to keep his orders and his rules written in this book of teaching, and if you turn back to the Lord your God with your whole heart and your whole soul.

And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath driven thee, And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul; That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee. If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the LORD thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee: And the LORD thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers. And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live. And the LORD thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them that hate thee, which persecuted thee. And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the LORD, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day. And the LORD thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good: for the LORD will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers: If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.

The word is very close

This commandment I command you today is not hidden from you, and it is not far off. It is not in heaven, so you need to say, "Who will go up to heaven for us, bring it to us, and make us hear it so we can do it?" Neither is it beyond the sea, so you need to say, "Who will cross the sea for us, bring it to us, and make us hear it so we can do it?" But the word is very near you — in your mouth and in your heart — so you may do it.

Because this order I'm ordering you today isn't hidden from you and it isn't far off. It isn't in the sky, so you'd say: Who'll go up to the sky for us and bring it to us, so we hear it and do it? And it isn't across the sea, so you'd say: Who'll go over the sea for us and bring it to us, so we hear it and do it? But the word is very close to you — in your mouth and in your heart, so you can do it.

For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off. It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it? Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it? But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.

11

This commandment I command you today is not hidden from you, and it is not far off.

Plain English

Because this order I'm ordering you today isn't hidden from you and it isn't far off.

King James Version, 1611

For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off.

12

It is not in heaven, so you need to say, "Who will go up to heaven for us, bring it to us, and make us hear it so we can do it?"

Plain English

It isn't in the sky, so you'd say: Who'll go up to the sky for us and bring it to us, so we hear it and do it?

King James Version, 1611

It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?

13

Neither is it beyond the sea, so you need to say, "Who will cross the sea for us, bring it to us, and make us hear it so we can do it?"

Plain English

And it isn't across the sea, so you'd say: Who'll go over the sea for us and bring it to us, so we hear it and do it?

King James Version, 1611

Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?

14

But the word is very near you — in your mouth and in your heart — so you may do it.

Plain English

But the word is very close to you — in your mouth and in your heart, so you can do it.

King James Version, 1611

But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.

Choose life

See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. I command you today to love the Lord your God, follow his ways and keep his commandments, rules and judgments, so that you may live and multiply, and the Lord your God may bless you in the land you are going in to possess. But if your heart turns away so that you will not hear, and you are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you today that you'll surely perish. You won't prolong your days on the land you are crossing Jordan to go in and possess. I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day: I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. So choose life, so both you and your descendants may live, that you may love the Lord your God, obey his voice and stick close to him, because he is your life and the length of your days, so you may live in the land the Lord swore to give your fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Look — I've set in front of you today life and good, and death and evil. Because I'm ordering you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in his ways and to keep his orders and his rules and his judgments — so you live and grow to be many, and the Lord your God blesses you in the land you're going in to own. But if your heart turns away and you won't listen, and you're pulled away and bow down to other gods and serve them — I'm telling you today that you'll be wrecked for sure. You won't make your days long on the land you're going over the Jordan to go in and own. I call heaven and earth to witness against you today: I've set life and death in front of you, the blessing and the curse. So choose life, so you live, you and your offspring — so you love the Lord your God and listen to his voice and stick to him. Because he's your life and the length of your days, so you live in the land the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob, to give them.

See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it. But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it. I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

15

See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil.

Plain English

Look — I've set in front of you today life and good, and death and evil.

See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;

Plain English

Because I'm ordering you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in his ways and to keep his orders and his rules and his judgments — so you live and grow to be many, and the Lord your God blesses you in the land you're going in to own.

King James Version, 1611

In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.

17

But if your heart turns away so that you will not hear, and you are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them,

Plain English

But if your heart turns away and you won't listen, and you're pulled away and bow down to other gods and serve them —

King James Version, 1611

But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;

18

I declare to you today that you'll surely perish. You won't prolong your days on the land you are crossing Jordan to go in and possess.

Plain English

I'm telling you today that you'll be wrecked for sure. You won't make your days long on the land you're going over the Jordan to go in and own.

I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day: I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. So choose life, so both you and your descendants may live,

King James Version, 1611

That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
