Og king of Bashan
Then we turned and went up by the way of Bashan. And Og king of Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Edrei. But we took all the cattle and the loot of the cities for ourselves as plunder. And at that time we took the land out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites who were on this side of the Jordan, from the river Arnon to Mount Hermon — Which the Sidonians call Sirion and the Amorites call Senir — All the cities of the plain and the whole of Gilead and the whole of Bashan, right to Salkah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. And to the Reubenites and to the Gadites I gave from Gilead right to the river Arnon, half the valley and the border, right to the river Jabbok, which is the border of the Ammonites, And the Arabah too, with the Jordan as the border, from Kinnereth right to the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, under the slopes of Pisgah towards the east. And I commanded you at that time: The Lord your God has given you this land to possess. You'll go over armed before your brothers, the Israelites, all the fighting men. But your wives and your little ones and your cattle — I know you've got many cattle — will stay in your cities that I've given you, Till the Lord has given your brothers rest the same as you, and they possess the land too that the Lord your God has given them over the Jordan. But the Lord was angry with me because of you and would not listen. The Lord said to me, "That is enough. Do not speak to me about this matter again. Go up to the top of Pisgah. Look west, north, south and east, and see it with your own eyes, because you will not cross this Jordan. But commission Joshua. Encourage him and strengthen him, because he will cross over ahead of these people and he will cause them to inherit the land you see." So we stayed in the valley opposite Bethpeor.

But the LORD was wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter. Get thee up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan. But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see. So we abode in the valley over against Bethpeor.
