The image of gold
Nebuchadnezzar the king made a statue of gold, ninety feet high and nine feet wide, and set it up on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon. Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent word to gather the satraps, the administrators, the governors, the advisers, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates and all the officials of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the statue King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. So the satraps, administrators, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges, magistrates and all the officials of the provinces gathered for the dedication of the statue King Nebuchadnezzar had set up, and they stood in front of it. Then a herald called out loudly: This is the order to you, peoples and nations and languages. When you hear the sound of the horn, the pipe, the lyre, the harp, the stringed instrument, the drums and every kind of music, you are to fall down and worship the golden statue King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. And whoever doesn't fall down and worship will be thrown that same hour into a blazing furnace. So when all the people heard the sound of the horn, the pipe, the lyre, the harp, the stringed instrument and every kind of music, all the peoples and nations and languages fell down and worshipped the golden statue King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. So at that time some Chaldeans came forward and laid charges against the Jews. They said to King Nebuchadnezzar, King, live forever. There are certain Jews you have put over the affairs of the province of Babylon — Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. These men take no notice of you, king. They don't serve your gods, and they don't worship the golden statue you have set up.

If it comes to it, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the blazing furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, king. But if not, know this, king: we still won't serve your gods, and we won't worship the golden statue you have set up. Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with fury, and the look on his face changed toward Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. He gave the order to heat the furnace seven times hotter than it was usually heated, and he ordered the strongest men in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. So these men were tied up in their coats and trousers and hats and their other clothes, and thrown into the blazing furnace. And because the king's order was so urgent and the furnace was so hot, the flame killed the men who carried Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego up. And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, fell down tied up into the blazing furnace.
Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury ordered them to bring Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. So they brought these men in front of the king. Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said to them: Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that you don't serve my gods or bow to the golden image I've set up? Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated. And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

He answered, Look — I see four men loose, walking in the middle of the fire, and they are not hurt. And the form of the fourth is like the Son of God. Then Nebuchadnezzar went near the mouth of the blazing furnace and said, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out and come here. So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire. And the satraps and administrators and governors and the king's counsellors gathered round and saw these men. The fire had no power over their bodies. Not a hair of their heads was singed, their coats weren't changed, and there wasn't even the smell of fire on them. Then Nebuchadnezzar said: Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who sent his angel and delivered his servants who trusted in him. They defied the king's order and gave up their bodies rather than serve or worship any god except their own God. So I issue an order that any people, nation or language that says anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego will be cut to pieces, and their houses made rubbish heaps — because there is no other god who can deliver like this. Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the province of Babylon.
Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was amazed and got up in a hurry. He spoke and said to his counsellors: Didn't we throw three men tied up into the middle of the fire? They answered and said to the king: True, king. He answered and said: Look — I see four men walking loose in the middle of the fire, and they're not hurt. And the fourth looks like a son of the gods. Then Nebuchadnezzar came near the mouth of the burning fiery furnace. He spoke and said: Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out and come here. Then Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the middle of the fire. And the governors, the officials, the captains and the king's counsellors gathered and saw these men, that the fire hadn't had any power over their bodies. The hair of their head wasn't singed and their coats weren't changed, and the smell of fire hadn't got onto them. Then Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said: Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who's sent his angel and got his servants out who trusted in him. They changed the king's word and handed their bodies over, so they wouldn't serve or bow to any god except their own God. So I'm making an order that every people, nation and language that speaks anything wrong against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego will be cut in pieces, and their houses made a dunghill. Because there's no other God who can get people out like this. Then the king made Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego do well in the province of Babylon.

They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God. Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire. And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them. Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God. Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort. Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in the province of Babylon.

And the satraps and administrators and governors and the king's counsellors gathered round and saw these men. The fire had no power over their bodies. Not a hair of their heads was singed, their coats weren't changed, and there wasn't even the smell of fire on them.

And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.
Then Nebuchadnezzar said: Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who sent his angel and delivered his servants who trusted in him. They defied the king's order and gave up their bodies rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.
Then Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said: Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who's sent his angel and got his servants out who trusted in him. They changed the king's word and handed their bodies over, so they wouldn't serve or bow to any god except their own God.
Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.
So I issue an order that any people, nation or language that says anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego will be cut to pieces, and their houses made rubbish heaps — because there is no other god who can deliver like this.
So I'm making an order that every people, nation and language that speaks anything wrong against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego will be cut in pieces, and their houses made a dunghill. Because there's no other God who can get people out like this.
Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.
Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the province of Babylon.
