The lame man at the gate
Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. A man lame from birth was being carried there. Every day they laid him at the temple gate called Beautiful so he could beg from those going in. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter, with John, looked straight at him and said, "Look at us." The man gave them his attention, expecting to receive something. Peter said, "Silver and gold I don't have, but what I do have I'll give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk." He took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately the man's feet and ankle bones received strength. He sprang to his feet, stood and walked. Then he went into the temple with them, walking, leaping and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God. They recognised him as the man who used to sit begging at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, and they were filled with wonder and shock at what had happened to him. As the lame man who was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch called Solomon's, greatly wondering.

When Peter saw the crowd, he said, "Men of Israel, why are you amazed at this? And why stare at us as though our own power or holiness made this man walk? The God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Son Jesus, who you handed over and denied in front of Pilate, when he had determined to let him go. But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and wanted a murderer to be given to you. You killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead. We are witnesses of that. Through faith in his name, this man you see and know has been made strong. Faith in Jesus has given him this perfect soundness in front of you all. Now, brothers, I know you did it in ignorance, just as your rulers did too. But the things God foretold through the mouth of all his prophets — that Christ should suffer — he has fulfilled in this way. So repent and turn back, so your sins may be blotted out, when times of refreshing come from the presence of the Lord, and he sends Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before. Heaven must receive him until the times of restitution of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. For Moses truly said to the fathers: The Lord your God will raise up a prophet for you from your brothers, like me. Him you'll hear in everything he says to you.
