Peter explains
The apostles and brothers throughout Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God. When Peter had come up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision argued with him, And said: You went in to men who aren't circumcised and ate with them. Peter began from the start and explained the matter to them in order: I was in the city of Joppa praying. And this was done three times. And everything was drawn up again into heaven. At that very moment, three men sent from Caesarea arrived at the house where I was. The Spirit told me to go with them, doubting nothing. What's more, these six brothers went with me, and we went into the man's house. He showed us how he'd seen an angel in his house, who stood and said to him: Send men to Joppa and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter. He will tell you words by which you and your whole household will be saved.' As I started to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them the way it did on us at the start. Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said: John truly baptised with water, but you'll be baptised with the Holy Spirit. "If God gave them the same gift he gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to stand in God's way?" When they heard this, they held their peace and glorified God, saying, "Then God has also granted repentance to life to the Gentiles."

Some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene who, when they came to Antioch, spoke to the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus. The hand of the Lord was with them. And a great number believed and turned to the Lord. Then word of these things came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem. And they sent out Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch. When Barnabas arrived and saw the grace of God, he was glad and urged them all to hold tight to the Lord with purpose of heart. For he was a good man and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And many people were added to the Lord. Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul. When he'd found him, he brought him to Antioch. And it happened that a whole year they gathered themselves with the church and taught many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. And in those days prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch. And one of them named Agabus stood up and showed by the Spirit that there'd be a great famine through all the world, which came about in the days of Claudius Caesar. Then the disciples, every man according to what he could, determined to send relief to the brothers who lived in Judea. They did this, sending the relief to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
