Peter's sheet

The next day, as they travelled and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray about the sixth hour. He became very hungry and wanted something to eat, but while the meal was being prepared he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and something like a great sheet descending to him, bound at the four corners and let down to the earth. In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth and wild animals and creeping things and birds of the air. A voice came to him: "Rise, Peter. Kill and eat." Peter said, "Not so, Lord. I have never eaten anything common or unclean." The voice spoke to him a second time: "What God has cleansed, do not call common." This was done three times. And the vessel was taken up again into heaven. While Peter was wondering what the vision meant, the men sent by Cornelius found Simon's house and stood at the gate. And called and asked whether Simon, whose surname was Peter, was staying there. While Peter was thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Look, three men are looking for you. Get up, go downstairs and go with them without doubting, because I have sent them." Peter went down to the men sent by Cornelius and said, "I'm the man you're looking for. What brings you here?" They said: Cornelius the centurion, a just man and one who fears God and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by a holy angel to send for you to his house and to hear words from you. Then he called them in and put them up. And the next day Peter went away with them, and some brothers from Joppa went with him.

God is no respecter of persons

Peter opened his mouth and said, "Now I truly understand that God is no respecter of persons. In every nation, whoever fears him and works righteousness is accepted with him. The word God sent to the Israelites, preaching peace by Jesus Christ — he's Lord of all. That word you know, that was published throughout all Judea and started from Galilee, after the baptism John preached. You know how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with him. We are witnesses of everything he did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a tree. God raised him up on the third day and showed him openly, Not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, to us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He ordered us to preach to the people and to testify that it's him who was set up by God to be the judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets bear witness to him, that through his name whoever believes in him will receive forgiveness of sins." While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. And those of the circumcision who believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because on the Gentiles too the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out. For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered: Peter said, "Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptised, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?" He commanded them to be baptised in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay some days.

Then Peter opened his mouth: Truly I see God isn't one to take sides. But in every nation the one who fears him and does right is accepted with him. The word God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ — he's Lord of all. That word you know, that was told out through all Judea and started from Galilee, after the baptism John preached. How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Who went about doing good and healing everyone crushed by the devil. Because God was with him. And we're witnesses of everything he did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. Who they killed and hanged on a tree. Him God raised up the third day and showed him openly. Not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, to us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. And he ordered us to preach to the people and to testify that it's him who was set up by God to be the judge of the living and the dead. To him all the prophets give witness, that through his name whoever believes in him will get forgiveness of sins. While Peter still spoke these words, the Holy Spirit fell on everyone who heard the word. And the ones of the circumcision who believed were shocked, as many as came with Peter, because on the nations too the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out. Because they heard them speak with tongues and make God great. Then Peter answered: Can any man stop water, so these shouldn't be baptised, who've got the Holy Spirit the way we have? And he ordered them to be baptised in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay some days.

Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead. And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
