Peter came to himself and said, "Now I know for certain the Lord has sent his angel and delivered me from Herod's hand and from everything the Jewish people expected." When he'd thought about it, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying. When Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer. She recognised Peter's voice and was so happy she forgot to open the gate. She ran back inside and announced that Peter was standing outside. They told her, "You're mad." But she kept insisting it was true. Then they said, "It is his angel." Peter kept knocking. When they finally opened the door and saw him, they were astonished. Peter motioned for them to be quiet and told them how the Lord had brought him out of prison. Then he said, "Tell James and the brothers what happened." After that he left for another place. Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what had become of Peter. When Herod had looked for him and couldn't find him, he questioned the keepers and commanded they should be put to death. And he went down from Judea to Caesarea and stayed there.
