Ahaz does evil

In the seventeenth year of Pekah son of Remaliah, Ahaz son of Jotham became king of Judah. Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. Unlike his ancestor David, he did not do what was right in the LORD's eyes his God. Instead, he followed the ways of the kings of Israel. He even made his son pass through the fire, following the detestable practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before the Israelites. He sacrificed and burned incense at the worship shrines, on the hills and under every green tree. Then Rezin king of Syria and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel came up to wage war against Jerusalem. They besieged Ahaz but could not defeat him. At that time Rezin king of Syria recovered Elath for Syria and drove the Judeans out. The Syrians came to Elath and have lived there to this day. Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying: I am your servant and your son. Come and save me from the kings of Syria and Israel who are attacking me. Ahaz took the silver and gold found in the Lord's temple and the royal treasuries and sent it as a gift to the king of Assyria. The king of Assyria listened to him. He marched against Damascus, captured it, carried its people away to Kir, and killed Rezin.

And the Arameans came to Elath and lived there right to this day. So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria: I'm your servant and your son. Come up and save me out of the hand of the king of Aram and out of the hand of the king of Israel, who get up against me. And Ahaz took the silver and gold found in the house of the Lord and in the treasures of the king's house, and sent it as a present to the king of Assyria. And the king of Assyria listened to him. The altar from Damascus

King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria. There he saw an altar and sent Uriah the priest a pattern and detailed design of it. Uriah the priest built an altar exactly according to the plans King Ahaz sent from Damascus, finishing it before the king returned. When the king returned from Damascus and saw the altar, he approached it and offered sacrifices on it. He burned his burnt offering and grain offering, poured out his drink offering and sprinkled the blood of his peace offerings on the altar. He moved the bronze altar that had stood before the Lord from the front of the temple, from between the new altar and the Lord's temple, and placed it on the north side of his altar. King Ahaz commanded Uriah the priest: On the great altar burn the morning burnt offering, evening grain offering, the king's burnt sacrifice and grain offering, and the offerings of all the people. Sprinkle on it all the blood of the burnt offerings and sacrifices. Leave the bronze altar for me to use for enquiry. Uriah the priest did everything King Ahaz commanded. King Ahaz removed the side panels from the bases and took the basins off them. He also took the sea down from the bronze oxen underneath it and put it on a stone pavement. Because of the king of Assyria, he altered the covered sabbath entry they had built at the temple and the king's outer entrance to the Lord's temple. The rest of Ahaz's acts are recorded in the chronicles of the kings of Judah. Ahaz died and was buried with his ancestors in the City of David. His son Hezekiah became king in his place.
