Ruth gleans
Now Naomi had a relative on her husband's side, a wealthy man of standing from Elimelech's family. His name was Boaz. And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, Let me go out to the field and glean behind whoever will show me favour. And she said, Go on, my daughter. So she went out and gleaned in the field behind the reapers. As it happened, she came to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was from Elimelech's family. And here came Boaz out from Bethlehem, and he said to the reapers, The Lord be with you. And they answered him, The Lord bless you. Then Boaz said to the man he had over the reapers, Whose girl is that? And the foreman answered, That is the Moabite girl who came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab. She asked if she could glean and gather among the sheaves behind the reapers. So she came, and she has been at it from morning until now, apart from a short rest in the shelter. Then Boaz said to Ruth, Listen, my daughter. Don't go gleaning in any other field, and don't go off anywhere else. Stay here, close by my women. Keep your eye on the field they are reaping and follow along behind them. I have told the young men to leave you alone. And when you are thirsty, go over to the water jars and have a drink of what the young men have drawn. Then she went down on her face, bowed to the ground, and said to him, Why are you being so kind to me? Why would you take any notice of me, when I am a stranger here? And Boaz answered her, I have heard the whole story of what you have done for your mother-in-law since your husband died — how you left your father and mother and the country you were born in, and came to a people you did not know before. May the Lord repay what you have done, and may you be well rewarded by the Lord God of Israel, whose wings you have come to shelter under. Then she said, I hope I keep finding favour with you, sir. You have put me at ease and spoken kindly to your servant, though I am not even one of your servants.

And she said: Let me glean, please, and gather after the reapers among the sheaves. So she came and has kept at it since the morning till now, except she rested a little in the house. Then Boaz said to Ruth: Listen, my daughter. Don't go to glean in another field, and don't go from here, but stay close by my young women. Keep your eyes on the field they reap and follow them. Haven't I ordered the young men not to touch you? And when you're thirsty, go to the jars and drink what the young men have drawn. Then she fell on her face and bowed to the ground and said to him: Why have I found favour in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, seeing I'm a foreigner? And Boaz answered her: I've been fully told everything you've done for your mother-in-law since your husband died, and how you've left your father and your mother and the land you were born in, and come to a people you didn't know before. The Lord pay you back for what you've done, and a full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you've come to take shelter. Then she said: Let me find favour in your eyes, my lord. Because you've comforted me and spoken kindly to your servant, though I'm not like one of your servant women.

And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab: And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house. Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens: Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn. Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger? And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore. The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust. Then she said, Let me find favour in thy sight, my lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken friendly unto thine handmaid, though I be not like unto one of thine handmaidens.

And at mealtime Boaz said to her, Come over here. Have some bread, and dip your piece in the vinegar. So she sat down beside the reapers, and he passed her some roasted grain. She ate her fill and had some over. And when she got up to glean, Boaz gave his young men their orders: Let her glean among the sheaves themselves, and don't give her a hard time about it. And pull out some stalks from the bundles on purpose and leave them for her to pick up. And don't pull her up over it. So she gleaned in the field until evening, and then beat out what she had gathered. It came to about an ephah of barley. She picked it up and carried it into town, and her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned. And Ruth brought out what she had saved from her meal and gave it to her. And her mother-in-law said, Where did you glean today? Where were you working? Bless the man who took notice of you. So she told her mother-in-law who she had been working with. The man I worked with today, she said, his name is Boaz. And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, The Lord bless him — he has not given up on his kindness to the living or the dead. And Naomi said, That man is a close relative of ours. He is one of those with the right to redeem us. And Ruth the Moabite said, He told me as well, Stay close by my young men until they have finished the whole harvest. And Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, That's good, my daughter. Go out with his women, so nobody bothers you in another field. So she stayed close by the women of Boaz, gleaning right through the barley harvest and the wheat harvest. And she lived with her mother-in-law.

Blessed be the one who took notice of you. And she told her mother-in-law who she'd worked with and said: The man's name I worked with today is Boaz. And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law: Blessed be he of the Lord, who hasn't stopped his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said to her: The man is a close relative of ours, one of our redeemers. And Ruth the Moabite said: He said to me too: Stay close by my young men till they've finished all my harvest. And Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law: It's good, my daughter, that you go out with his young women, so they don't meet you in any other field. So she stayed close by the young women of Boaz to glean, till the end of the barley harvest and of the wheat harvest. And she lived with her mother-in-law.
And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left. And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not: And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not. So she gleaned in the field until even, and beat out that she had gleaned: and it was about an ephah of barley. And she took it up, and went into the city: and her mother in law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her that she had reserved after she was sufficed. And her mother in law said unto her, Where hast thou gleaned to day? and where wroughtest thou? blessed be he that did take knowledge of thee. And she shewed her mother in law with whom she had wrought, and said, The man’s name with whom I wrought to day is Boaz. And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the LORD, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen. And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest. And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other field. So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and dwelt with her mother in law.

And Ruth the Moabite said, He told me as well, Stay close by my young men until they have finished the whole harvest.
