Panting for streams of water

As the deer longs for streams of water, so my soul longs for you, God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When will I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night, while they keep saying to me, 'Where is your God?' When I remember these things, I pour out my soul: I used to go with the multitude and lead them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a crowd keeping holyday. Why are you cast down, my soul? Why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, because I'll praise him again for the help of his presence. My God, my soul is cast down within me, so I'll remember you from the land of Jordan, from the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar. Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterspouts. All your waves and breakers have gone over me. Yet the LORD will command his mercy in the daytime, and at night his song will be with me — my prayer to the God of my life. I'll say to God my rock, 'Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?' As with a sword in my bones, my enemies insult me while they say to me all day long, 'Where is your God?' Why are you down, my soul? Why are you unsettled within me? Hope in God, because I'll praise him again — my Saviour and my God.

Like a deer panting for streams of water, that's how my soul pants for you, God. My soul is thirsty for God, for the living God. When will I come and stand in front of God? My tears have been my bread day and night, while they say to me all day long: Where's your God? When I think about these things I pour my soul out inside me — how I went with the crowd and led them to the house of God with the sound of shouting and thanks, a crowd keeping the festival. Why are you down, my soul? Why are you stirred up inside me? Hope in God. Because I'll thank him again for the help of his face. My God, my soul is down inside me. So I'll remember you from the land of the Jordan and the Hermons, from the hill of Mizar. Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls. All your breakers and your waves have gone over me. But the Lord will send out his faithful love in the daytime, and at night his song will be with me — a prayer to the God of my life. I'll say to God my rock: Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go about mourning under the pressure of the enemy? Like a sword in my bones, the ones against me insult me, saying to me all day long: Where's your God? Why are you down, my soul? Why are you stirred up inside me? Hope in God. Because I'll thank him again — he's the health of my face and my God.

As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar. Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life. I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God? Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
