The nations rage

Why do the nations rage, and the people plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand, and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his anointed: 'Let's break their bonds apart and throw off their cords.' The one who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. Then he'll speak to them in his anger and terrify them in his fury: 'I've set my King on Zion, my holy hill.' I'll declare the order. The LORD said to me, 'You are my Son; today I have become your Father. Ask me, and I'll give you the nations for your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for your possession. You'll break them with a rod of iron; you'll smash them like a potter's vessel.' So be wise now, you kings. Take the warning, you judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, or he'll be angry and you'll perish from the way when his anger flares up. Blessed are all who trust in him.

Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot for nothing? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the Lord and against his anointed: Let's snap their bonds and throw their ropes off us. The one who sits in the heavens laughs. The Lord makes a joke of them. Then he'll speak to them in his anger and terrify them in his fury: I've set my king on Zion, my holy hill. I'll tell out the decree. The Lord said to me: You're my son. Today I've fathered you. Ask me and I'll give you the nations as your inheritance, and the ends of the earth as your own. You'll break them with a rod of iron. You'll smash them like a potter's pot. So be wise now, you kings. Take the warning, you judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and be glad with shaking. Kiss the son, or he'll be angry and you'll be finished on the road, because his anger flares up quickly. Happy is everyone who takes shelter in him.

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
