The first saying
Balaam said to Balak: Build me seven altars here, and get me seven bulls and seven rams ready here. Balak did what Balaam said. And Balak and Balaam offered a bull and a ram on every altar. Balaam said to Balak: Stand by your burnt offering, and I will go. Maybe the Lord will come to meet me. And whatever he shows me, I will tell you. He went to a bare height. God met Balaam, and Balaam said, 'I have prepared the seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.' The Lord put a word in Balaam's mouth and said: Go back to Balak, and this is what you will say. He returned to him, and there he was, standing by his burnt offering, he and all the leaders of Moab. Balak said to him: Come with me, please, to another place where you can see them. You will only see the edge of them and will not see all of them. And curse them for me from there. He brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on every altar. He said to Balak: Stand here by your burnt offering, while I meet the Lord over there. The Lord met Balaam and put a word in his mouth and said: Go back to Balak, and this is what you will say. When he came to him, there he was, standing by his burnt offering, and the leaders of Moab with him. And Balak said to him: What has the Lord spoken? He took up his saying: Get up, Balak, and hear. Listen to me, son of Zippor. 'God is not a man, that he should lie, nor the son of man, that he should repent. Has he said it, and will he not do it? Has he spoken, and will he not make it good?' 'I have received commandment to bless. He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.' He has not seen wrongdoing in Jacob or trouble in Israel. The Lord their God is with them, and the shout of a king is among them. God brought them out of Egypt. He has strength like a wild ox. 'Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob and no divination against Israel. According to this time it will be said of Jacob and Israel, “What has God done!”' The people will get up like a great lion and lift himself up like a young lion. He will not lie down till he eats the prey and drinks the blood of those killed. Balak said to Balaam, 'If you will not curse them, then at least do not bless them either.' Balaam answered Balak, 'Didn't I tell you that whatever the Lord says, that is what I must do?' Balak said to Balaam: Come, please, and I will bring you to another place. Maybe it will please God to let you curse them for me from there. Balak brought Balaam to the top of Peor, that looks towards Jeshimon.
