What makes a man unclean
Then scribes and Pharisees from Jerusalem came to Jesus and said, Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? Because they don't wash their hands when they eat bread. But he answered them, And why do you break the commandment of God by your tradition? Because God commanded, saying, Honour your father and mother, and, Whoever curses father or mother, let him die. But you say, Whoever says to his father or his mother, Whatever help you might have had from me is a gift to God — then he doesn't have to honour his father or his mother. So you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. You hypocrites. Esaias prophesied well about you, saying: This people comes near me with their mouth and honours me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. And they worship me for nothing, teaching human commandments as if they were from God. And he called the crowd and said to them, Listen, and understand. It isn't what goes into the mouth that defiles a man. It is what comes out of the mouth — that is what defiles a man. Then his disciples came and said to him, Do you know the Pharisees were offended when they heard that? But he answered, Every plant my heavenly Father hasn't planted will be rooted up. Leave them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both of them will fall into the ditch. Then Peter answered him, Explain this parable to us. And Jesus said, Are you still without understanding as well? Don't you understand yet that whatever goes into the mouth goes into the stomach and passes out into the drain? But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. Because out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual immorality, thefts, false witness and blasphemies. These are the things that defile a man. But eating with unwashed hands doesn't defile a man.

And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.

And he called the crowd and said to them, Listen, and understand.

And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:
It isn't what goes into the mouth that defiles a man. It is what comes out of the mouth — that is what defiles a man.
It isn't what goes into the mouth that makes a man unclean. But what comes out of the mouth, that's what makes a man unclean.
Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
Then his disciples came and said to him, Do you know the Pharisees were offended when they heard that?

The Canaanite woman
Then Jesus went away from there into the region of Tyre and Sidon. And a woman of Canaan came out of that district and cried out to him, saying, Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David. My daughter is terribly tormented by a demon. But he didn't answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, Send her away, because she keeps calling after us. But he answered, I was sent only to the lost sheep of the people of Israel. Then she came and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered, It isn't right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs. And she said, True, Lord. Yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table. Then Jesus answered her, Woman, great is your faith. Let it be done for you as you want. And her daughter was made well from that very hour.

Four thousand fed
And Jesus went on from there and came near the Sea of Galilee, and went up on a mountain and sat down there. And great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the mute, the maimed and many others, and laid them down at Jesus' feet. And he healed them. So that the crowd was amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the maimed made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they glorified the God of Israel. Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me three days now and have nothing to eat. And I won't send them away hungry, in case they collapse on the road. And his disciples said to him, Where would we get enough bread out here in the wilderness to fill such a crowd? And Jesus said to them, How many loaves have you got? And they said, Seven, and a few small fish. And he told the crowd to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven loaves and the fish, and gave thanks, and broke them, and gave them to his disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowd. And they all ate and had enough. And they picked up seven baskets full of the pieces left over. And those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children. And he sent the crowd away and got into a boat, and came into the region of Magdala.
And Jesus left there and came near the Sea of Galilee. And went up into a mountain and sat down there. And plenty of people came to him, having with them the lame, the blind, the dumb, the maimed and plenty of others. And they threw them down at Jesus' feet, and he healed them.
