Four thousand fed
In those days, when the crowd was very large again and had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said to them, I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me three days now and have nothing to eat. And if I send them home hungry they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long way. And his disciples answered him, Where could anyone get enough bread to feed these people out here in the wilderness? And he asked them, How many loaves have you got? And they said, Seven. And he told the crowd to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven loaves and gave thanks, and broke them, and gave them to his disciples to set before the people. And straight away he got into the boat with his disciples and came into the district of Dalmanutha.

Are your hearts still hardened? You have eyes — don't you see? You have ears — don't you hear? And don't you remember? Then he laid his hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. And he sent him home, saying, Don't go into the town, and don't tell anyone in the town.

And he said this openly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. But he turned round and looked at his disciples, and rebuked Peter, saying, Get behind me, Satan. Because you aren't thinking the thoughts of God, but the thoughts of men. And when he had called the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, If anyone wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Because whoever wants to save his life will lose it. But whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. Because what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his own soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of man will be ashamed of him too, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
