The man let down through the roof
And a few days later he went into Capernaum again, and word got about that he was in the house. And straight away so many gathered that there was no room left, not even around the door. And he preached the word to them. And they came to him bringing a paralysed man, carried by four of them. And when they couldn't get near him because of the crowd, they took the roof off above where he was. And when they had broken through, they let down the mat the paralysed man was lying on. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralysed man, Son, your sins are forgiven. But some of the scribes were sitting there, turning it over in their hearts: Why does this man talk like that? It is blasphemy. Who can forgive sins except God alone? And straight away Jesus knew in his spirit what they were thinking, and he said to them, Why are you turning these things over in your hearts? Which is easier — to say to the paralysed man, Your sins are forgiven, or to say, Get up and pick up your mat and walk? But so you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins — he said to the paralysed man, I say to you, get up, pick up your mat, and go home. And straight away he got up, picked up his mat and walked out in front of them all. So they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, We have never seen anything like it.

Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
But so you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins — he said to the paralysed man,

And it happened that as Jesus sat at the table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners sat down with Jesus and his disciples, because there were many of them, and they followed him. And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eating with tax collectors and sinners, they said to his disciples, Why does he eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners? And when Jesus heard it he said to them, It isn't the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I didn't come to call the righteous, but sinners.

If he does, the new patch pulls away from the old, and the tear is made worse. And nobody puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine bursts the skins, and the wine is spilled and the skins are ruined. New wine has to go into new skins.

How he went into the house of God, in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which nobody but the priests is allowed to eat, and gave some to the men with him as well? And he said to them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath. So the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath.
