The persistent widow
And he told them a parable to this end, that men ought always to pray and not lose heart, saying, There was in a certain town a judge who didn't fear God and had no regard for man. There was a widow in that town, and she kept coming to him saying, 'Give me justice against the person who's wronging me.' And for a while he wouldn't. But afterwards he said to himself, Though I don't fear God or have any regard for man, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice — in case she wears me out with her constant coming. And the Lord said, Listen to what the unjust judge says. And won't God give justice to his own chosen, who cry out to him day and night, even though he is patient with them? I tell you he will give them justice quickly. Even so, when the Son of man comes, will he find faith on the earth?

Now when Jesus heard this he said to him, You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. And come, follow me. And when he heard this he was very sorrowful, because he was very rich. And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God. Because it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. And those who heard it said, Who then can be saved? And he said, The things that are impossible with men are possible with God. Then Peter said, Look, we have left everything and followed you. And he said to them, I tell you the truth, there is nobody who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children for the sake of the kingdom of God who won't receive many times as much in this present time, and in the world to come everlasting life.

Then he took the twelve aside and said to them, Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything written by the prophets about the Son of man will be carried out. Because he will be handed over to the Gentiles, and will be mocked and treated spitefully and spat on. And they will flog him and put him to death. And the third day he will rise again. And they understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they didn't know what he was talking about. And as he came near Jericho, a certain blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. And hearing the crowd going past, he asked what it meant. And they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was going by. And he cried out, saying, Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me. And those going ahead told him off and said he should be quiet. But he cried out all the more, Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stopped and ordered him to be brought to him. And when he had come near, he asked him, saying, What do you want me to do for you? And he said, Lord, let me see again. And Jesus said to him, Receive your sight. Your faith has saved you. And straight away he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.
