And one of the crowd said to him, Master, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me. And he said to him, Man, who made me a judge or an arbitrator over you? And he said to them, Take care and beware of greed. Because a man's life doesn't consist in the abundance of what he owns. And he told them a parable, saying, The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. And he thought to himself, saying, What should I do, because I have no room to store my crops? And he said, This is what I will do. I will pull down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have plenty of goods laid up for many years. Take your ease. Eat, drink and be merry. But God said to him, You fool. Tonight your soul is required of you. Then whose will those things be that you have provided? That is how it is with the man who lays up treasure for himself and isn't rich toward God.

That's what it's like for the one who lays up treasure for himself and isn't rich towards God.
So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
Don't worry
And he said to his disciples, So I tell you, don't worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. Think about the ravens. They neither sow nor reap. They have no storehouse or barn, and God feeds them. How much more are you worth than the birds? And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? So if you can't do the least thing, why do you worry about the rest? Think about the lilies, how they grow. They don't work and they don't spin. And yet I tell you that Solomon in all his glory wasn't dressed like one of these. So if God clothes the grass like that, which is in the field today and thrown into the oven tomorrow, how much more will he clothe you, you of little faith? And don't set your heart on what you will eat or what you will drink, and don't be anxious about it. Because the nations of the world chase after all these things. And your Father knows you need them. But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you. Don't be afraid, little flock. Because it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell what you have and give to the poor. Provide yourselves purses that don't wear out, a treasure in the heavens that doesn't fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. Because where your treasure is, there your heart will be too.

Let your belts be fastened and your lamps burning, and be like men waiting for their master to come back from the wedding, so that when he comes and knocks they can open to him straight away. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds watching when he comes. I tell you the truth, he will fasten his own belt and make them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them. And if he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants. And know this: if the owner of the house had known what hour the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and wouldn't have let his house be broken into. So you be ready too. Because the Son of man is coming at an hour you don't expect. Then Peter said to him, Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everyone? And the Lord said, Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his master will put in charge of his household, to give them their share of food at the right time? Blessed is that servant whom his master finds doing so when he comes. I tell you truly, he will put him in charge of everything he has. But if that servant says in his heart, My master is taking his time — and begins to beat the menservants and the maids, and to eat and drink and get drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day he isn't looking for him, and at an hour he doesn't know. And he will cut him in pieces and give him his place with the unbelievers. And that servant who knew his master's will and didn't get ready, or do what he wanted, will be beaten with many blows. But the one who didn't know, and did things deserving a beating, will be beaten with few. Because to whom much is given, much will be required. And from the one who has been entrusted with much, all the more will be asked.
Let your waist be strapped and your lamps burning. And you yourselves like men who wait for their lord, when he'll come back from the wedding, so when he comes and knocks they can open to him straight away. But if that servant says in his heart: My lord is slow in coming — and starts to beat the servants and the servant girls, and to eat and drink and to be drunk, the lord of that servant will come on a day when he doesn't look for him and at an hour when he isn't aware, and will cut him in two and will set him his portion with the ones who don't believe. And that servant who knew his lord's will and didn't get ready or do according to his will will be beaten with plenty of blows. But the one who didn't know and did things worthy of blows will be beaten with few. Because to whoever much is given, of him much will be asked. And to whom men have handed over plenty, of him they'll ask the more.
Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately. And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

Blessed is that servant who his lord finds doing that when he comes.
Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
I tell you truly, he will put him in charge of everything he has.
Truly I say to you, he'll make him ruler over everything he's got.
Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.
But if that servant says in his heart, My master is taking his time — and begins to beat the menservants and the maids, and to eat and drink and get drunk,
But if that servant says in his heart: My lord is slow in coming — and starts to beat the servants and the servant girls, and to eat and drink and to be drunk,
But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;
the master of that servant will come on a day he isn't looking for him, and at an hour he doesn't know. And he will cut him in pieces and give him his place with the unbelievers.
the lord of that servant will come on a day when he doesn't look for him and at an hour when he isn't aware, and will cut him in two and will set him his portion with the ones who don't believe.
The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
And that servant who knew his master's will and didn't get ready, or do what he wanted, will be beaten with many blows.
And that servant who knew his lord's will and didn't get ready or do according to his will will be beaten with plenty of blows.
And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
But the one who didn't know, and did things deserving a beating, will be beaten with few. Because to whom much is given, much will be required. And from the one who has been entrusted with much, all the more will be asked.
But the one who didn't know and did things worthy of blows will be beaten with few. Because to whoever much is given, of him much will be asked. And to whom men have handed over plenty, of him they'll ask the more.
But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
Not peace but division
I have come to bring fire on the earth. And what would I have, if it is already kindled? But I have a baptism to be baptised with, and how hemmed in I am until it is finished. Do you suppose I have come to bring peace on earth? I tell you, no — but rather division. Because from now on there will be five in one house divided, three against two and two against three. The father will be divided against the son, and the son against the father. The mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother. The mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And he said to the people as well, When you see a cloud rising in the west, straight away you say, A shower is coming. And so it is. And when you see the south wind blow, you say, There will be heat. And it happens. You hypocrites. You know how to read the face of the sky and the earth. So how is it you can't read this present time? And why don't you judge for yourselves what is right? When someone takes you before the magistrate, try hard to settle with them on the way, in case they drag you to the judge, the judge hands you to the officer, and the officer throws you into prison. I tell you, you won't get out of there until you have paid every last cent.

Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?
And why don't you judge for yourselves what is right?

When thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison.
I tell you, you won't get out of there until you have paid every last cent.

I tell thee, thou shalt not depart thence, till thou hast paid the very last mite.
