The seventy sent
After this the Lord appointed seventy others as well, and sent them out two by two ahead of him into every town and place where he himself was going to come. So he said to them, The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few. So pray to the Lord of the harvest, that he will send out labourers into his harvest. Go your ways. Look — I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Carry no purse, no bag, no shoes. And greet nobody along the road. And whatever house you go into, first say, Peace be to this house. And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on it. If not, it will come back to you. And stay in the same house, eating and drinking whatever they give you. Because the labourer is worth his wages. Don't go from house to house. And whatever town you go into, and they receive you, eat what is set in front of you. And heal the sick who are there, and say to them, The kingdom of God has come close to you. But whatever town you go into, and they don't receive you, go out into its streets and say, Even the dust of your town that clings to us, we wipe off against you. But be sure of this — the kingdom of God has come close to you. But I tell you that it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town. Trouble is coming to you, Chorazin. Trouble is coming to you, Bethsaida. Because if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in coarse mourning cloth and ashes. But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgement than for you. And you, Capernaum, lifted up to heaven — you will be thrust down to hell. Whoever hears you hears me. And whoever rejects you rejects me. And whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.

Look — I give you power to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. And nothing will hurt you in any way. But don't rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you. Rejoice rather because your names are written in heaven. In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit and said, I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and clever, and have revealed them to little children. Even so, Father — because that is what seemed good in your eyes. Everything has been handed over to me by my Father. And nobody knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one the Son chooses to reveal him to. And he turned to his disciples and said privately, Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. Because I tell you that many prophets and kings have wanted to see what you see, and haven't seen it, and to hear what you hear, and haven't heard it.

And by chance a certain priest came down that way. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And a Levite likewise, when he came to the place and looked at him, passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he travelled, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion on him, and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine. And he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and looked after him. The next day, when he left, he gave the innkeeper two silver coins and said, Look after him. Whatever else you spend, I'll pay you back when I return. Which of these three, do you think, was neighbour to the man who fell among the robbers? And he said, The one who showed mercy on him. Then Jesus said to him, Go, and do the same.

And Jesus answered her, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed. And Mary has chosen that good part, which won't be taken away from her.
