The angel at Bokim
And an angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim and said: I brought you up out of Egypt and brought you into the land I swore to your fathers. And I said, I will never break my covenant with you. And you were to make no treaty with the people of this land, and you were to tear down their altars. But you haven't obeyed my voice. Why have you done this? So now I say: I won't drive them out ahead of you. They will be thorns in your sides, and their gods will be a snare to you. And when the angel of the Lord had said this to all the Israelites, the people lifted up their voice and wept. So they called that place Bochim, and they sacrificed to the Lord there.

And another generation grew up after them who didn't know the Lord, or the works he had done for Israel. And the Israelites did evil in the LORD's eyes and served Baalim. They abandoned the Lord God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, the gods of the peoples around them, and bowed down to them, and provoked the Lord to anger. They abandoned the Lord and served Baal and Ashtaroth. And the anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and he handed them over to raiders who plundered them. He sold them into the hands of the enemies around them, so they couldn't stand against their enemies any longer. Wherever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for harm, just as the LORD had said and sworn to them. And they were greatly distressed. Even so, the Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them. But they wouldn't listen to their judges either. They went whoring after other gods and bowed down to them. They turned aside quickly from the way their fathers had walked in, obeying the commandments of the Lord. They didn't do the same. And when the Lord raised up judges for them, the Lord was with the judge and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of that judge. Because the Lord was moved to pity by their groaning under those who oppressed and crushed them. But when the judge died, they went back and became more corrupt than their fathers, following other gods to serve them and bow down to them. They gave up none of their practices and none of their stubborn ways. And the anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and he said, Because this people have broken my covenant, which I commanded their fathers, and haven't listened to my voice, I will no longer drive out from before them any of the nations Joshua left when he died. I will use them to test Israel, to see whether they will keep the way of the Lord and walk in it, as their fathers did, or not. So the Lord left those nations where they were, without driving them out quickly. He didn't hand them over to Joshua.

They didn't stop any of what they did or their stubborn way. And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel. And he said: Because this people has stepped over my covenant that I ordered their fathers, and hasn't listened to my voice — I won't drive out any of the nations from in front of them that Joshua left when he died — so through them I can test Israel, whether they'll keep the way of the Lord to walk in it, the way their fathers kept it, or not. So the Lord left those nations, and didn't drive them out quickly or hand them over into the hand of Joshua.

And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice; I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died: That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not. Therefore the LORD left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.
