Describe the land
The whole assembly of Israel gathered at Shiloh and set up the tent of meeting there. The land had been brought under their control. Seven Israelite tribes still had not received their inheritance. Joshua said to the Israelites: How long are you going to sit on your hands instead of going in and taking possession of the land the Lord God of your ancestors has given you? Choose three men from each tribe for me. I'll send them out to walk through the land, map it according to each tribe's inheritance, and then come back to me. they'll divide it into seven parts. Judah will stay in their border on the south, and the house of Joseph will stay in their borders on the north. So you'll describe the land in seven parts and bring the description here to me, so I can cast lots for you here before the Lord our God. But the Levites have no share among you, because the priesthood of the Lord is their inheritance. And Gad and Reuben and half the tribe of Manasseh have got their inheritance on the other side of the Jordan on the east, that Moses the servant of the Lord gave them. And its end was at Kiriath Baal, which is Kiriath Jearim, a city of the sons of Judah. This was the west side. the south side was from the end of Kiriath Jearim. And the border went out on the west and went out to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah. the border came down to the end of the hill in front of the Valley of Ben Hinnom, in the Valley of Rephaim on the north. And it went down the Valley of Hinnom to the side of the Jebusite on the south, and went down to En Rogel. it was drawn from the north and went out to En Shemesh and out to Geliloth, that's opposite the going up to Adummim, and went down to the stone of Bohan son of Reuben. it went along towards the side opposite the Arabah northward, and went down to the Arabah. the border went along to the side of Beth Hoglah northward. And the end of the border was at the north bay of the Salt Sea, at the south end of the Jordan. This was the south border. the Jordan was its border on the east side. This was the inheritance of the sons of Benjamin by its borders all around, by their families. Now the cities of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin by their families were Jericho and Beth Hoglah and the Valley of Keziz, and Beth Arabah and Zemaraim and Bethel, and Avvim and Parah and Ophrah, and Kephar Ammoni and Ophni and Geba — twelve cities with their villages. And the south quarter was from the end of Kirjathjearim, and the border went out on the west, and went out to the well of waters of Nephtoah: And the border came down to the end of the mountain that lieth before the valley of the son of Hinnom, and which is in the valley of the giants on the north, and descended to the valley of Hinnom, to the side of Jebusi on the south, and descended to Enrogel, And was drawn from the north, and went forth to Enshemesh, and went forth toward Geliloth, which is over against the going up of Adummim, and descended to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben, And passed along toward the side over against Arabah northward, and went down unto Arabah: And the border passed along to the side of Bethhoglah northward: and the outgoings of the border were at the north bay of the salt sea at the south end of Jordan: this was the south coast.
