Job the man
There was a man in the land of Uz named Job. He was blameless and upright, a man who feared God and stayed away from evil. He had seven sons and three daughters. He owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred female donkeys, along with a very large household. He was the greatest man in all the east. His sons used to hold feasts in their homes, each on his appointed day, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. When the feast days had run their course, Job would send for them and set them apart before God. He rose early in the morning and offered burnt offerings for each of them, thinking, ‘Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.’ Job kept doing this.

Thus did Job continually.
Satan in front of the Lord
One day the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came among them as well. The LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan answered, "From roaming through the earth and walking up and down in it." The LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one like him on earth — blameless and upright, a man who fears God and stays away from evil." Satan answered the LORD, "Does Job fear God for nothing? Haven't you put a hedge around him, his household and everything he owns? You've blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have spread throughout the land. But reach out your hand and strike everything he has, and he'll curse you to your face." The LORD said to Satan, "Very well. Everything he has is in your power, but do not lay a hand on the man himself." Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.

Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

And the Lord said to Satan: Have you thought about my servant Job, that there's nobody like him on earth, a whole and straight man who fears God and turns away from evil?
And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
Satan answered the LORD, "Does Job fear God for nothing?
Then Satan answered the Lord: Does Job fear God for nothing?
Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
Haven't you put a hedge around him, his household and everything he owns? You've blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have spread throughout the land.
Haven't you put a hedge round him and round his house and round everything he's got on every side? You've blessed the work of his hands, and what he owns has spread out in the land.
Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
But reach out your hand and strike everything he has, and he'll curse you to your face."
But put out your hand now and touch everything he's got, and he'll curse you to your face.
But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
The LORD said to Satan, "Very well. Everything he has is in your power, but do not lay a hand on the man himself." Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.
And the Lord said to Satan: Look — everything he's got is in your hand. Only don't put out your hand on him. So Satan went out from in front of the Lord.
And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
The messengers
One day Job's sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house. A messenger came to Job and said, "The oxen were ploughing and the donkeys were feeding beside them, when the Sabeans attacked and took them. They killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I'm the only one who escaped to tell you." While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, "The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants. I'm the only one who escaped to tell you." While he was still speaking, another came and said, "The Chaldeans formed three raiding parties, swept down on the camels and took them. They killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I'm the only one who escaped to tell you." While he was still speaking, another came and said, "Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house, when a great wind came in from the wilderness and struck all four corners of the house. It collapsed on the young people and they are dead. I'm the only one who escaped to tell you." Then Job stood up, tore his robe, shaved his head, fell to the ground and worshipped. He said, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD." In all this, Job did not sin or charge God foolishly.

The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. In all this Job didn't sin or lay anything wrong on God.

While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house: And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.

And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
Then Job stood up, tore his robe, shaved his head, fell to the ground and worshipped.

Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
He said, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD."
And he said: Naked I came out of my mother's womb, and naked I'll go back. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
In all this, Job did not sin or charge God foolishly.
In all this Job didn't sin or lay anything wrong on God.
In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
