Tell us the way we should walk
Then all the army commanders came up, and Johanan son of Kareah and Jezaniah son of Hoshaiah and all the people from the least to the greatest, and said to Jeremiah the prophet: Please, hear our plea. Pray to the LORD your God for all of us who are left — because there are only a few of us left out of many, as you can see. Let the LORD your God tell us the way we should walk and what we should do. And Jeremiah the prophet said to them: I've heard you. Look: I'll pray to the LORD your God the way you've said. And whatever the LORD answers you, I'll tell you. I won't keep anything back from you. Then they said to Jeremiah: May the LORD be a true and faithful witness against us if we don't do exactly what the LORD your God sends you to tell us. Whether it's good or bad, we'll listen to the voice of the LORD our God who we're sending you to — so it goes well for us when we listen to the voice of the LORD our God. And at the end of ten days the LORD spoke to Jeremiah.
Then all the army commanders came up, and Johanan son of Kareah and Jezaniah son of Hoshaiah and all the people from the least to the greatest, and said to Jeremiah the prophet: Let our pleading come in front of you, please. Pray to the Lord your God for us, for this whole remnant — because there's only a few of us left out of many, the way your eyes can see. Let the Lord your God tell us the way we should walk and what we should do. And Jeremiah the prophet said to them: I've heard you. Look — I'll pray to the Lord your God the way you've said. And whatever the Lord answers you, I'll tell you. I won't keep anything back from you. Then they said to Jeremiah: May the Lord be a true and faithful witness against us if we don't do exactly what the Lord your God sends you to tell us. And at the end of ten days the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah.
Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near, And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:) That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do. Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you. Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the LORD thy God shall send thee to us. Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God. And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah.

If you stay in this land
Then he called Johanan son of Kareah and all the army commanders with him and all the people from the least to the greatest, And said to them: This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says — the one you sent me to, to lay your pleading before him. If you'll settle down and stay in this land, then I'll build you and not pull you down. I'll plant you and not pull you up. Because I'm sorry about the trouble I've done to you. Don't be frightened of the king of Babylon, the one you're frightened of. Don't be frightened of him, declares the LORD, because I'm with you to save you and get you out of his hand. And I'll show you mercy, so he has mercy on you and lets you go back to your own land. But if you say, We won't stay in this land — so you don't listen to the voice of the LORD your God — Saying, No, we'll go to the land of Egypt where we won't see war or hear the sound of the trumpet or go hungry for bread, and we'll live there — Then listen to the word of the LORD, you survivors of Judah. This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: If you really set your faces to go into Egypt and you go to live there, Then the sword you're frightened of will catch you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine you're worried about will follow hard after you there in Egypt, and that's where you'll die. And all the men who set their faces to go into Egypt to live there will die by the sword and famine and plague. Not one of them will be left or escape from the trouble I'm bringing on them. Because this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: The way my anger and my fury were poured out on the people of Jerusalem, that's how my fury will be poured out on you when you go into Egypt. And you'll be a curse and a horror and something people insult and hiss at, and you won't see this place again. The LORD has spoken to you, survivors of Judah: Don't go into Egypt. Know for certain that I've warned you today. Because you've cheated in your own souls when you sent me to the LORD your God saying, Pray for us to the LORD our God, and tell us everything the LORD our God says and we'll do it. And I've told you today, and you haven't listened to the voice of the LORD your God in anything he sent me to tell you. Now know for certain that you will die by the sword, famine and plague in the place where you want to go and live.

Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand. And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land. But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, neither obey the voice of the LORD your God, Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell: And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there; Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die. So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them. For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more. The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day. For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it. And now I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, nor any thing for the which he hath sent me unto you.
