No wife, no mourning, no feast
And the LORD spoke to me: Don't take a wife and don't have sons and daughters in this place. Because this is what the LORD says about the sons and daughters born in this place, and about the mothers who give birth to them and the fathers who father them in this land: They'll die of terrible sicknesses. They won't be grieved over and they won't be buried. They'll be dung on the face of the ground. They'll be consumed by sword and famine, and their bodies will be food for the birds of heaven and the animals of the earth. Because this is what the LORD says: Don't go into a house where there's mourning. Don't go to grieve or feel sorry for them, because I've taken my peace away from this people, declares the LORD — my faithful love and my mercy. Great and small will die in this land. They won't be buried and nobody will grieve over them or cut themselves or shave their heads for them. Nobody will break bread for the one who's grieving, to comfort him over the dead. Nobody will give them the cup of comfort to drink for their father or their mother. And don't go into a house where there's a feast, to sit with them and eat and drink. Because this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Look: I'll put a stop in this place, before your eyes and in your days, to the sound of joy and gladness, the voice of the groom and the voice of the bride.
And the word of the Lord came to me: Don't take a wife and don't have sons and daughters in this place. Because this is what the Lord says about the sons and daughters born in this place, and about the mothers who give birth to them and the fathers who father them in this land: They'll die of terrible sicknesses. They won't be grieved over and they won't be buried. They'll be dung on the face of the ground. They'll be finished off by sword and famine, and their bodies will be food for the birds of the sky and the animals of the earth. Because this is what the Lord says: Don't go into a house where there's mourning. Don't go to grieve or feel sorry for them, because I've taken my peace away from this people, declares the Lord — my faithful love and my mercy. Great and small will die in this land. Because this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Look — I'll put a stop in this place, in front of your eyes and in your days, to the sound of joy and gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.
The word of the LORD came also unto me, saying, Thou shalt not take thee a wife, neither shalt thou have sons or daughters in this place. For thus saith the LORD concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that bare them, and concerning their fathers that begat them in this land; They shall die of grievous deaths; they shall not be lamented; neither shall they be buried; but they shall be as dung upon the face of the earth: and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their carcases shall be meat for the fowls of heaven, and for the beasts of the earth. For thus saith the LORD, Enter not into the house of mourning, neither go to lament nor bemoan them: for I have taken away my peace from this people, saith the LORD, even lovingkindness and mercies. Both the great and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them: Neither shall men tear themselves for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother. Thou shalt not also go into the house of feasting, to sit with them to eat and to drink. For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place in your eyes, and in your days, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride.
And the LORD spoke to me:

Why has all this trouble come?
And when you tell this people all these words and they say to you, Why has the LORD spoken all this great trouble against us? What's our wrongdoing, and what's the sin we've done against the LORD our God? — Then tell them: It's because your fathers walked out on me, declares the LORD, and went after other gods and served them and bowed down to them. They walked out on me and didn't keep my teaching. And you've done worse than your fathers. Look at you — every one of you walking after the stubbornness of his wicked heart, not listening to me. So I'll sling you out of this land into a land you and your fathers haven't known. And there you'll serve other gods day and night, because I won't show you any favour.

And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt shew this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath the LORD pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against the LORD our God? Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the LORD, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law; And ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken unto me: Therefore will I cast you out of this land into a land that ye know not, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve other gods day and night; where I will not shew you favour.

Fishermen and hunters
So look: the days are coming, declares the LORD, when it won't be said any more, As surely as the LORD lives who brought the people of Israel up out of the land of Egypt, But, As surely as the LORD lives who brought the people of Israel up out of the land of the north and out of all the lands he'd driven them to. Because I'll bring them back to their land, the one I gave their fathers. Look: I'll send for many fishermen, declares the LORD, and they'll fish for them. And after that I'll send for many hunters, and they'll hunt them off every mountain and every hill and out of the cracks in the rocks. Because my eyes are on all their ways. They're not hidden from my face, and their wrongdoing isn't hidden from my eyes. First I'll pay back double for their wrongdoing and their sin, because they've defiled my land with the dead bodies of their disgusting things and filled my inheritance with what I loathe. LORD, my strength, my fortress and my refuge in the day of trouble, the Gentiles will come to you from the ends of the earth and say, “Surely our fathers inherited lies and worthless things that were no use at all.” Can a man make gods for himself, when they're not gods? So look: this time I'll make them know. I'll make them know my hand and my strength, and they'll know that my name is the LORD.
So look — the days are coming, declares the Lord, when it won't be said any more, As surely as the Lord lives who brought the people of Israel up out of the land of Egypt, but, As surely as the Lord lives who brought the people of Israel up out of the land of the north and out of all the lands he'd driven them to. Because I'll bring them back to their land, the one I gave their fathers. Look — I'll send for plenty of fishermen, declares the Lord, and they'll fish for them. And after that I'll send for plenty of hunters, and they'll hunt them off every mountain and every hill and out of the cracks in the rocks. Because my eyes are on all their ways. They're not hidden from my face, and their wrongdoing isn't hidden from my eyes. First I'll pay back double for their wrongdoing and their sin, because they've made my land filthy with the dead bodies of their disgusting things and filled my inheritance with what I loathe. Lord, my strength and my stronghold, my refuge in the day of trouble — the nations will come to you from the ends of the earth and say: Our fathers only got lies, empty things with no use in them at all. Can a man make gods for himself, when they're not gods? So look — this time I'll make them know. I'll make them know my hand and my strength, and they'll know that my name is the Lord.
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers. Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the LORD, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks. For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes. And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have defiled my land, they have filled mine inheritance with the carcases of their detestable and abominable things. O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit. Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods? Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The LORD.
