Lord, though our wrongdoing testifies against us, do something for your name's sake. Because our turnings away are many. We've sinned against you. You're the hope of Israel, its saviour in the time of trouble — so why are you like a stranger in the land, like a traveller who's turned in for one night? Why are you like a man taken by surprise, like a strong man who can't save? But you're right here among us, Lord, and we're called by your name. Don't leave us.

And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.

If I go out into the field, look: people killed by the sword. If I come into the city, look: people sick with famine. Both prophet and priest wander through a land they don't know. Have you utterly rejected Judah? Does your soul loathe Zion? Why have you struck us so there's no healing for us? We waited for peace and there's nothing good, and for a time of healing, and here's terror. Lord, we know our wickedness and the wrongdoing of our fathers, because we've sinned against you. For your name’s sake, do not despise us. Do not disgrace the throne of your glory. Remember your covenant with us, and do not break it.
