Nobody takes it to heart
The righteous man dies and nobody takes it to heart. Faithful men are taken away and nobody understands that the righteous is taken away from the trouble that's coming. He goes into peace. They rest in their beds, each one who walked straight ahead. But draw near here, you sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the prostitute. Against whom are you making sport? Against whom do you open your mouth wide and stick out the tongue? Aren't you children of wrongdoing, a seed of falsehood, Burning with lust among the oaks and under every green tree, killing the children in the valleys under the cracks in the rocks? Your share is among the smooth stones of the stream. They're your lot. You've even poured out a drink offering to them and brought a grain offering. Should I be satisfied with this? You've set your bed on a high and lifted-up mountain. That's where you went up to make your sacrifice. Behind the door and the doorpost you've put up your reminder. You uncovered yourself to someone other than me and went up and widened your bed and made a deal with them. You loved their bed and looked at their nakedness. You went to the king with oil and piled on the perfumes. You sent your messengers far off and sent yourself right down to hell. You wore yourself out with the length of your road, and you never said, It's hopeless. You found your hand had life in it, so you didn't give in. Who were you so worried and frightened about, that you lied and didn't remember me and didn't take it to heart? Isn't it because I've held my peace so long that you don't fear me? I'll show up your righteousness and what you've done — and it'll be no use to you. When you cry out, let the collection you've gathered save you. The wind will carry all of them off. A breath will take them. But whoever takes shelter in me will inherit the land and own my holy mountain.

They rest in their beds, each one who walked straight ahead. But you — come here, you sons of the fortune-teller, you offspring of the adulterer and the prostitute. Who are you having a go at? Who are you pulling faces at and sticking your tongue out at? Aren't you children of rebellion, offspring of lies — burning with lust among the oaks and under every green tree, killing the children in the valleys under the cracks in the rocks? The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness. But draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the whore. Against whom do ye sport yourselves? against whom make ye a wide mouth, and draw out the tongue? are ye not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood, Enflaming yourselves with idols under every green tree, slaying the children in the valleys under the clifts of the rocks? Among the smooth stones of the stream is thy portion; they, they are thy lot: even to them hast thou poured a drink offering, thou hast offered a meat offering. Should I receive comfort in these? Upon a lofty and high mountain hast thou set thy bed: even thither wentest thou up to offer sacrifice. Behind the doors also and the posts hast thou set up thy remembrance: for thou hast discovered thyself to another than me, and art gone up; thou hast enlarged thy bed, and made thee a covenant with them; thou lovedst their bed where thou sawest it. And thou wentest to the king with ointment, and didst increase thy perfumes, and didst send thy messengers far off, and didst debase thyself even unto hell. Thou art wearied in the greatness of thy way; yet saidst thou not, There is no hope: thou hast found the life of thine hand; therefore thou wast not grieved. And of whom hast thou been afraid or feared, that thou hast lied, and hast not remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of old, and thou fearest me not? I will declare thy righteousness, and thy works; for they shall not profit thee. When thou criest, let thy companies deliver thee; but the wind shall carry them all away; vanity shall take them: but he that putteth his trust in me shall possess the land, and shall inherit my holy mountain;

The high and holy place
And he will say, ‘Build up, build up, prepare the way. Remove the stumblingblock from the way of my people.’ This is what the high and lofty One says, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: ‘I live in the high and holy place, and also with the one who is contrite and humble in spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and revive the heart of the contrite.’ Because I won't fight forever and I won't always be angry — or the spirit would fail before me, and the souls I've made. I was angry over his greedy wrongdoing and I struck him. I hid myself and I was angry, and he went on turning back to the way his own heart wanted. I've seen his ways and I'll heal him. I'll lead him and give comfort back to him and to those who mourn for him. ‘I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace to the one who is far off and to the one who is near,’ says the LORD, ‘and I will heal him.’ But the wicked are like the troubled sea when it cannot rest, whose waters throw up mire and dirt. ‘There is no peace,’ says my God, ‘for the wicked.’
And he'll say: Build it up, build it up, get the road ready. Take the obstacles out of my people's way. Because this is what the high and lifted-up One says, the one who lives forever, whose name is Holy: I live in the high and holy place, and also with the one who's crushed and low in spirit, to bring life back to the spirit of the low and life to the heart of the crushed. Because I won't fight forever and I won't always be angry — or the spirit would fail in front of me, and the souls I've made. I was angry over his greedy wrongdoing and I struck him. I hid myself and I was angry, and he went on turning back to the way his own heart wanted. I've seen his ways and I'll heal him. I'll lead him and give comfort back to him and to those who mourn for him. I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace to the one far off and the one near, says the Lord, and I'll heal him. But the wicked are like the sea when it's stirred up, when it can't be quiet and its waters throw up mud and dirt. There's no peace, says my God, for the wicked.
And shall say, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the stumblingblock out of the way of my people. For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made. For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him: I hid me, and was wroth, and he went on frowardly in the way of his heart. I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners. I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him. But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.
