Widen the place of your tent

Sing, you barren woman who never gave birth. Break out singing and shout, you who were never in labour. Because the children of the woman left on her own will be more than the children of the married one, says the LORD. Widen the place of your tent. Let them stretch out the curtains of your dwelling. Don't hold back. Lengthen your ropes and drive your pegs in hard. For you'll break forth on the right hand and on the left. Your seed will inherit the Gentiles and cause the desolate cities to be inhabited. Don't be afraid, because you won't be ashamed. Don't feel humiliated, because you won't be disgraced. You'll forget the shame of your youth and won't remember the shame of your widowhood any more. For your Maker is your husband — the LORD Almighty is his name — and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel. He will be called the God of the whole earth. Because the LORD has called you like a woman left behind and heartbroken, like the wife of a man's youth when she was turned away, says your God. ‘For a small moment I have abandoned you, but with great mercies I will gather you.’ In a flood of anger I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting love I'll have mercy on you, says the LORD your redeemer.

Don't be afraid, because you won't be ashamed. Don't feel humiliated, because you won't be disgraced. You'll forget the shame of your youth and won't remember the reproach of your widowhood any more. Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD. Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited. Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more. For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called. For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God. For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer.

The covenant of peace

This is like the waters of Noah to me. The way I swore the waters of Noah would never go over the earth again, that's how I've sworn not to be angry with you or rebuke you. ‘The mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my kindness will not depart from you, nor will the covenant of my peace be removed,’ says the LORD who has mercy on you. You afflicted one, storm-tossed and not comforted — look, I'll set your stones in antimony and lay your foundations with sapphires. I'll make your windows of agates and your gates of carbuncles and your whole boundary of precious stones. All your children will be taught by the LORD, and your children will have great peace. You'll be set up in righteousness. You'll be far from oppression, because you won't be afraid, and far from terror, because it won't come near you. they will surely gather together, but not by me. Whoever gathers together against you will fall for your sake. Look: I created the blacksmith who blows the coals in the fire and brings out a tool for his work. And I created the destroyer to destroy things. No weapon formed against you will prosper, and every tongue that rises against you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is from me, says the LORD.

This is like the waters of Noah to me. The way I swore the waters of Noah would never go over the earth again, that's how I've sworn not to be angry with you or rebuke you. Though the mountains move and the hills shift, my faithful love won't move off you and my covenant of peace won't shift, says the Lord who has mercy on you. If anyone stirs up trouble, it's not from me. Whoever picks a fight with you will fall because of you. Look — I created the blacksmith who blows the coals in the fire and brings out a tool for his work. And I created the destroyer to wreck things. No weapon made against you will do the job, and every tongue that stands up against you in judgment, you'll prove wrong. This is the inheritance of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness comes from me, declares the Lord.

For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee. For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee. O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires. And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones. And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children. In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee. Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake. Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy. No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
