Water on the thirsty ground
But listen now, Jacob my servant, Israel whom I've chosen. This is what the LORD says, the one who made you and formed you from the womb, who will help you: ‘Don't be afraid, O Jacob my servant, and Jesurun, whom I have chosen.’ I'll pour water on the thirsty and floods on the dry ground. I'll pour my spirit on your seed and my blessing on your offspring. And they'll spring up like grass in a meadow, like willows by running streams. One will say, I belong to the LORD. Another will call himself by the name of Jacob. Another will write on his hand, The LORD's, and take the name Israel. This is what the LORD, the King of Israel, and his redeemer, the LORD Almighty, says: ‘I am the first, and I am the last; beside me there is no God.’ And who's like me? Let him call it out and set it out and lay it before me, since I set up the ancient people. Let them tell what's coming and what's still to happen. Don't be frightened and don't be afraid. Haven't I told you all along and announced it? You're my witnesses. Is there a God apart from me? There's no other Rock. I don't know one.
But listen now, Jacob my servant, Israel whom I've chosen. This is what the Lord says, the one who made you and shaped you in the womb and will help you: Don't be afraid, Jacob my servant, Jeshurun whom I've chosen. Because I'll pour water on the thirsty ground and streams on the dry land. I'll pour my Spirit on your offspring and my blessing on your children. And they'll spring up like grass in a meadow, like willows by running streams. One will say, I belong to the Lord. Another will call himself by the name of Jacob. Another will write on his hand, The Lord's, and take the name Israel. This is what the Lord says, the King of Israel and his redeemer, the Lord Almighty: I am the first and I am the last, and apart from me there is no God. And who's like me? Let him call it out and set it out and lay it in front of me, since I set up the ancient people. Let them tell what's coming and what's still to happen. Don't be frightened and don't be afraid. Haven't I told you all along and announced it? You're my witnesses. Is there a God apart from me? There's no other Rock. I don't know one.
Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen: Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen. For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses. One shall say, I am the LORD’s; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel. Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them. Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.
But listen now, Jacob my servant, Israel whom I've chosen.
Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen:
This is what the LORD says, the one who made you and formed you from the womb, who will help you: ‘Don't be afraid, O Jacob my servant, and Jesurun, whom I have chosen.’

Because I'll pour water on the thirsty ground and streams on the dry land. I'll pour my Spirit on your offspring and my blessing on your children.
For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:
And they'll spring up like grass in a meadow, like willows by running streams.
And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.
One will say, I belong to the LORD. Another will call himself by the name of Jacob. Another will write on his hand, The LORD's, and take the name Israel.

The man who makes a god
Those who make carved idols are all nothing, and the things they delight in won't profit. Their own witnesses don't see or know, so they'll be ashamed. Who shapes a god or casts an image that's no use to anyone? all his fellows will be ashamed, and the craftsmen are only men. Let them all be gathered together and stand up; they will fear and be ashamed together. The blacksmith works with the tongs in the coals, shapes it with hammers and works it with his strong arm. He gets hungry and his strength goes. He doesn't drink water and he's worn out. The carpenter stretches the line, marks it with a stylus, works it with planes, marks it with a compass. He makes it in the shape of a man, in human beauty, so it can sit in a house. He cuts down cedars for himself and takes the cypress and the oak, which he strengthens for himself among the trees of the forest. He plants an ash, and the rain nourishes it. Then it will be for a man to burn. He takes some of it and warms himself; yes, he kindles it and bakes bread. He also makes a god and worships it; he makes it a carved idol and falls down to it. He burns half of it in the fire. Over that half he eats meat, he roasts a roast and he's full. And he warms himself and says, Beauty, I'm warm, I've seen the fire. From the rest he makes a god, even his carved idol. He falls down to it, worships it, prays to it and says, ‘Deliver me, because you are my god.’ They don't know and they don't understand. Because he's plastered their eyes over so they can't see, and their hearts so they can't take it in. None considers in his heart, nor has knowledge or understanding to say, ‘I burned part of it in the fire; I baked bread on its coals; I roasted flesh and ate it. Will I make the rest into a disgusting thing? Will I fall down to the block of wood?’ He feeds on ashes. A twisted heart has led him astray. He can't save himself or say, Isn't this thing in my right hand a lie?
Everyone who makes a carved image is nothing, and the things they treasure are no use. Their own witnesses can't see and don't know a thing, so they end up ashamed. Who shapes a god or casts an image that's no use to anyone? Look — all his mates will be ashamed. The craftsmen are only men. Let them all come together and take their stand. They'll be frightened and ashamed together. He cuts down cedars for himself, or takes a cypress or an oak that he let grow strong among the trees of the forest. He plants a pine and the rain makes it grow. Then a man has it for burning. He takes some of it and warms himself. He gets a fire going and bakes bread. And he makes a god out of it and bows down. He makes it a carved image and falls down in front of it. He burns half of it in the fire. Over that half he eats meat, he roasts a roast and he's full. And he warms himself and says, Beauty, I'm warm, I've seen the fire. And out of the rest of it he makes a god, his carved image. He falls down in front of it and bows down and prays to it and says: Save me, because you're my god. They don't know and they don't understand. Because he's plastered their eyes over so they can't see, and their hearts so they can't take it in. Nobody stops to think. Nobody's got the knowledge or the sense to say: I burnt half of it in the fire. I baked bread on its coals. I roasted meat and ate it. And I'm going to make the rest of it into a disgusting thing? I'm going to fall down in front of a block of wood? He feeds on ashes. A twisted heart has led him astray. He can't save himself or say, Isn't this thing in my right hand a lie?
They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed. Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing? Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together. The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint. The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house. He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it. Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto. He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire: And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god. They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand. And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree? He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

I have wiped out your sins
Remember all this, Jacob — Israel, because you're my servant. I shaped you. You're my servant. Israel, I won't forget you. I've blotted out your wrongdoings like a thick cloud, and your sins like a cloud. Return to me, because I have redeemed you. Sing, heavens, because the LORD has done it. Shout, lower parts of the earth. Break out into singing, mountains, forest and every tree in it, because the LORD has redeemed Jacob and glorified himself in Israel. This is what the LORD says, your redeemer, the one who formed you from the womb: ‘I am the LORD who makes all things, who stretches out the heavens alone and spreads abroad the earth by myself.’ Who destroys the signs of the liars and makes fools of the fortune-tellers, who turns the wise men back and makes their knowledge look stupid, Who backs up the word of his servant and carries out what his messengers said — who says of Jerusalem, She'll be lived in, and of the cities of Judah, They'll be rebuilt, and I'll raise up her ruins; Who says to the deep, Dry up, and I'll dry up your rivers; He says of Cyrus, ‘He is my shepherd, and he will perform all my pleasure,’ even saying to Jerusalem, ‘You will be built,’ and to the temple, ‘Your foundation will be laid.’
Remember all this, Jacob — Israel, because you're my servant. I shaped you. You're my servant. Israel, I won't forget you. I've wiped out your rebellions like a cloud and your sins like the morning mist. Come back to me, because I've bought you back. Sing out, you heavens, because the Lord has done it. Shout, you depths of the earth. Break out singing, you mountains, forests and every tree in them — because the Lord has bought Jacob back and shown his glory in Israel. This is what the Lord says, your redeemer, the one who shaped you in the womb: I am the Lord, who makes everything, who stretches out the heavens on my own, who spreads out the earth by myself — who wrecks the signs of the liars and makes fools of the fortune-tellers, who turns the wise men back and makes their knowledge look stupid, who backs up the word of his servant and carries out what his messengers said — who says of Jerusalem, She'll be lived in, and of the towns of Judah, They'll be rebuilt, and I'll raise up her ruins; who says to the deep, Dry up, and I'll dry up your rivers; who says of Cyrus, He's my shepherd, and he'll do everything I want — saying of Jerusalem, She'll be rebuilt, and of the temple, Your foundation will be laid.
Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me. I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee. Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel. Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself; That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish; That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof: That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers: That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.

who backs up the word of his servant and carries out what his messengers said — who says of Jerusalem, She'll be lived in, and of the towns of Judah, They'll be rebuilt, and I'll raise up her ruins;
That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:

That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:
