The props taken away
Look: the LORD, the LORD Almighty, is taking away from Jerusalem and from Judah every prop they lean on: the whole supply of bread and the whole supply of water, The soldier and the fighting man, the judge and the prophet, the fortune-teller and the elder, The captain of fifty and the man of standing, the counsellor and the skilled tradesman and the clever talker. I'll put boys in charge of them, and children will rule over them. The people will be oppressed, everyone by another and everyone by his neighbour. The child will behave proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable. A man will take hold of his brother in his father's house and say, ‘You've got clothing — you be our ruler, and let this ruin be under your hand.’ And on that day he'll swear back: I'm no healer. And instead of perfume there'll be a stink. Instead of a sash, a rope. Instead of styled hair, baldness. Instead of a fine robe, coarse mourning cloth. Instead of beauty, a brand. Your men will fall by the sword, and your fighters in the battle. Her gates will mourn and grieve, and she'll sit on the ground desolate.

And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty. Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war. And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.
