Shelter the outcasts
Send lambs to the ruler of the land, from Sela across the desert to the mountain of the daughter of Zion. Like a fluttering bird pushed out of the nest, that's what the daughters of Moab are at the fords of the Arnon. Give us counsel. Make a decision. Make your shadow like night in the middle of the day. Hide the outcasts. Don't give away the one on the run. Let my outcasts live among you, Moab. Be a hiding place for them from the destroyer. When the oppressor is finished and the destruction is over and those trampling are gone out of the land, In mercy the throne will be established, and he will sit on it in truth in the tent of David, judging, seeking judgment and hastening righteousness.

Send ye the lamb to the ruler of the land from Sela to the wilderness, unto the mount of the daughter of Zion. For it shall be, that, as a wandering bird cast out of the nest, so the daughters of Moab shall be at the fords of Arnon. Take counsel, execute judgment; make thy shadow as the night in the midst of the noonday; hide the outcasts; bewray not him that wandereth. Let mine outcasts dwell with thee, Moab; be thou a covert to them from the face of the spoiler: for the extortioner is at an end, the spoiler ceaseth, the oppressors are consumed out of the land. And in mercy shall the throne be established: and he shall sit upon it in truth in the tabernacle of David, judging, and seeking judgment, and hasting righteousness.

Moab's pride and grief
We've heard how proud Moab is — very proud. His arrogance and his pride and his temper — and none of it holds up. So Moab will howl for Moab; everyone will howl. You'll mourn for the foundations of Kirhareseth — they are completely devastated. Because the fields of Heshbon are withering, and the vine of Sibmah. The lords of the nations have broken down its best branches. They reached as far as Jazer and wandered into the desert. Its shoots spread out and went over the sea. So I'll weep with the weeping of Jazer for the vine of Sibmah. I'll soak you with my tears, Heshbon and Elealeh, because the shouting has fallen on your summer fruit and your harvest. Gladness and joy are taken out of the orchard. In the vineyards there's no singing, no shouting. Nobody treads out wine in the presses. I've stopped the shouting. So my heart sounds like a harp for Moab, and my inward parts for Kirharesh. When it is seen that Moab is weary on the high place, he will come to his sanctuary to pray, but he will not prevail. That's the word the LORD spoke about Moab back then. But now the LORD has spoken: ‘Within three years, counted as the years of a hired man, the glory of Moab will be despised with all that great multitude, and the survivors will be very small and feeble.’
We've heard how proud Moab is — very proud. His arrogance and his pride and his temper — and none of it holds up. So Moab will wail for Moab. Everyone will wail. You'll moan for the raisin cakes of Kir Hareseth, completely crushed. In the vineyards there's no singing, no shouting. Nobody treads out wine in the presses. I've stopped the shouting. So my heart moans for Moab like a harp, and my insides for Kir Hareseth. And when Moab shows up and wears himself out at the high place and comes to his sanctuary to pray, he'll get nowhere. That's the word the Lord spoke about Moab back then. But now the Lord says: Within three years, counted like a hired man counts them, Moab's glory will be a thing people despise, for all his big crowds. What's left will be very small and of no account.
We have heard of the pride of Moab; he is very proud: even of his haughtiness, and his pride, and his wrath: but his lies shall not be so. Therefore shall Moab howl for Moab, every one shall howl: for the foundations of Kirhareseth shall ye mourn; surely they are stricken. For the fields of Heshbon languish, and the vine of Sibmah: the lords of the heathen have broken down the principal plants thereof, they are come even unto Jazer, they wandered through the wilderness: her branches are stretched out, they are gone over the sea. Therefore I will bewail with the weeping of Jazer the vine of Sibmah: I will water thee with my tears, O Heshbon, and Elealeh: for the shouting for thy summer fruits and for thy harvest is fallen. And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the plentiful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither shall there be shouting: the treaders shall tread out no wine in their presses; I have made their vintage shouting to cease. Wherefore my bowels shall sound like an harp for Moab, and mine inward parts for Kirharesh. And it shall come to pass, when it is seen that Moab is weary on the high place, that he shall come to his sanctuary to pray; but he shall not prevail. This is the word that the LORD hath spoken concerning Moab since that time. But now the LORD hath spoken, saying, Within three years, as the years of an hireling, and the glory of Moab shall be contemned, with all that great multitude; and the remnant shall be very small and feeble.
