A better covenant
Now the main point of what we are saying is this: we have a high priest like that, who has sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister of the sanctuary and of the true tent, which the Lord set up, and not man. Every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices, so this one had to have something to offer as well. If he were on earth he wouldn't be a priest at all, since there are already priests who offer gifts according to the law. They serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses was warned by God when he was about to build the tent: See that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain. But now he has been given a far better ministry, since he is the mediator of a better covenant, established on better promises. Because if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no need to look for a second. But God found fault with them and said: Look, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and the people of Judah. Not like the covenant I made with their fathers on the day I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt — because they didn't continue in my covenant, and I regarded them not, says the Lord. This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after those days, says the Lord. I will put my laws into their mind and write them on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they will be my people. And nobody will teach his neighbour, or his brother, saying, Know the Lord — because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. Because I will be merciful toward their unrighteousness, and their sins and their wrongdoings I will remember no more. By saying a new covenant, he has made the first one old. And whatever is growing old and worn out is close to disappearing.
Now of the things we've spoken this is the sum — we've got such a high priest, who's sat down on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens. A servant of the holy place and of the true tent, that the Lord set up and not man. Because every high priest is set up to offer gifts and sacrifices. So it's needful that this man has something too to offer. Because if he were on earth, he wouldn't be a priest, seeing there are priests who offer gifts according to the teaching. Who serve the example and shadow of heavenly things, the way Moses was warned of God when he was about to make the tent. Because he says: See you make everything according to the pattern shown you in the mountain. But now he's got a better service, by how much he's the go-between of a better covenant, that was set up on better promises. Because if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been looked for for the second. Because finding fault with them he says: Look — the days come, says the Lord, when I'll make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. Not according to the covenant I made with their fathers, in the day I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt — because they didn't go on in my covenant, and I didn't care about them, says the Lord. Because this is the covenant I'll make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I'll put my teaching into their mind and write it in their hearts. And I'll be to them a God, and they'll be to me a people. And they won't teach every man his neighbour and every man his brother: Know the Lord — because everyone will know me, from the least to the greatest. Because I'll be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their wrongdoings I'll remember no more. In that he says a new covenant, he's made the first old. Now what's old and gets old is ready to go away.
Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount. But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

And nobody will teach his neighbour, or his brother, saying, Know the Lord — because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.
And they won't teach every man his neighbour and every man his brother: Know the Lord — because everyone will know me, from the least to the greatest.
