Be strong and work
In the seventh month, on the twenty-first day of the month, the Lord spoke through Haggai the prophet: Say this to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Josedech, the high priest, and to everyone left of the people: Who's left among you who saw this house in its first glory? And how does it look to you now? Next to what it was, it's nothing, isn't it? But be strong now, Zerubbabel, says the Lord. And be strong, Joshua son of Josedech, the high priest. And be strong, all you people of the land, says the Lord, and get on with the work. Because I'm with you, says the Lord Almighty. According to the word I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, my Spirit remains among you. Don't be afraid. Because this is what the Lord Almighty says: Once more, in a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations will come. And I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord Almighty. The silver is mine and the gold is mine, says the Lord Almighty. The glory of this house at the last will be greater than at the first, says the Lord Almighty. And in this place I'll give peace, says the Lord Almighty.

Ask the priests
On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the Lord spoke through Haggai the prophet: This is what the Lord Almighty says. Ask the priests about the law: If a man carries consecrated meat in the fold of his coat, and the fold touches bread or stew or wine or oil or any other food, does it make it holy? And the priests answered: No. Then Haggai said: If a man made unclean by a dead body touches any of these, does it make it unclean? And the priests answered: It does. Then Haggai answered: That's how it is with this people and this nation in front of me, says the Lord, and with everything they turn their hands to. And what they offer there is unclean. So have a good look now at how it's been from this day back — before one stone was laid on another in the temple of the Lord. In those days a man would come to a heap he reckoned was twenty measures, and there'd be ten. He'd come to the vat to draw fifty, and there'd be twenty. I hit you with blight and mildew and hail in everything you turned your hands to, and still you never turned back to me, says the Lord. Have a good look now, from this day back — from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the day the foundation of the Lord's temple was laid. Have a good look at it. Is the seed still in the barn? The vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree have not borne fruit yet. But from this day I will bless you.

Think about it now, from this day on, from the twenty-fourth of the ninth month, from the day the foundation of the Lord's temple was laid. Think about it. Is the seed still in the barn? And the vine and the fig tree and the pomegranate and the olive tree haven't borne yet. From this day I'll bless you.

Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid, consider it. Then Haggai answered: That's how it is with this people and this nation in front of me, says the Lord, and with everything they turn their hands to. And what they offer there is unclean.
Then Haggai answered: That's how this people is, and that's how this nation is in front of me, says the Lord. And that's how everything they do with their hands is. And what they offer there is unclean.
Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.
So have a good look now at how it's been from this day back — before one stone was laid on another in the temple of the Lord.
So think about it now, from this day on — before a stone was laid on a stone in the Lord's temple.
And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD:
In those days a man would come to a heap he reckoned was twenty measures, and there'd be ten. He'd come to the vat to draw fifty, and there'd be twenty.
In those days, when someone came to a heap of twenty measures, there were only ten. When someone came to the press to draw out fifty from the vat, there were only twenty.
Since those days were, when one came to an heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one came to the pressfat for to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty.
I hit you with blight and mildew and hail in everything you turned your hands to, and still you never turned back to me, says the Lord.
I struck you with blight and with mildew and with hail in all the work of your hands — and you didn't turn to me, says the Lord.
I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet ye turned not to me, saith the LORD.
Have a good look now, from this day back — from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the day the foundation of the Lord's temple was laid. Have a good look at it.
Think about it now, from this day on, from the twenty-fourth of the ninth month, from the day the foundation of the Lord's temple was laid. Think about it.
Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid, consider it.
Is the seed still in the barn? The vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree have not borne fruit yet. But from this day I will bless you.

And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms and destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations. I will overthrow the chariots and those riding in them. The horses and their riders will come down, every man by his brother's sword. On that day, says the Lord Almighty, I'll take you, Zerubbabel my servant, son of Shealtiel, says the Lord, and make you like a signet ring. Because I've chosen you, says the Lord Almighty.
And the word of the Lord came to Haggai a second time on the twenty-fourth of the month: Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah: I'll shake the heavens and the earth. And I'll overturn the throne of kingdoms and wreck the strength of the kingdoms of the nations. And I'll overturn the chariots and the ones riding in them. And the horses and their riders will come down, each man by the sword of his brother. On that day, says the Lord Almighty, I'll take you, Zerubbabel my servant son of Shealtiel, says the Lord, and I'll make you like a signet ring. Because I've chosen you, says the Lord Almighty.

In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith the LORD, and will make thee as a signet: for I have chosen thee, saith the LORD of hosts.
