Jacob blesses Joseph's sons
And after these things Joseph was told: Your father is sick. And he took his two sons with him, Manasseh and Ephraim. And Jacob was told: Your son Joseph is coming to you. And Israel pulled himself up and sat on the bed. And Jacob said to Joseph: God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me. And he said to me: Look, I will make you fruitful and multiply you, and make you a multitude of people. And I will give this land to your offspring after you as an everlasting possession. And now your two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, born to you in the land of Egypt before I came down to you — they're mine. Same as Reuben and Simeon, they'll be mine. And any children you have after them will be your own, and they'll be counted under their brothers' names in what they inherit. And as for me — when I came from Paddan, Rachel died on me in the land of Canaan on the road, with only a little way to go to Ephrath. And I buried her there on the Ephrath road, which is Bethlehem. And Israel saw Joseph's sons and said: Who are these? And Joseph said to his father: They are my sons, whom God has given me here. And he said: Bring them to me, please, and I will bless them. Now Israel's eyes had gone with age and he couldn't see. And he brought them up close to him, and he kissed them and put his arms round them. And Israel said to Joseph: I never thought I'd see your face again. And now God has shown me your children as well. And Joseph brought them out from between his knees, and bowed down with his face to the ground. And Joseph took the two of them — Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel's left, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel's right — and brought them up to him. And Israel put out his right hand and laid it on Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manasseh's head. He crossed his hands on purpose, because Manasseh was the firstborn. And he blessed Joseph and said: The God my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked in front of, the God who has fed me my whole life long to this day, the Angel who rescued me from every trouble — bless these boys. Let my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac live on through them. And let their descendants multiply across the earth. And when Joseph saw his father put his right hand on Ephraim's head, he wasn't happy about it. And he took hold of his father's hand to shift it off Ephraim's head onto Manasseh's. And Joseph said to his father: Not that way, Dad. This one's the firstborn. Put your right hand on his head. And his father wouldn't have it, and said: I know, son. I know. He'll be a people too, and he'll be great. But his younger brother will be greater than him, and his offspring will come to a whole company of nations. And he blessed them that day and said: Israel will use your names to bless with, saying: God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh. And he put Ephraim ahead of Manasseh. And Israel said to Joseph: Look — I'm dying. But God will be with you, and bring you back to the country of your fathers. And I've given you one share above your brothers, the one I took off the Amorite with my sword and my bow.

And let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac. And let them grow into a crowd in the middle of the earth. And when Joseph saw his father laying his right hand on the head of Ephraim, it displeased him. And he held up his father's hand to shift it from Ephraim's head to Manasseh's head. And Joseph said to his father: Not so, my father. Because this is the firstborn. Put your right hand on his head. And his father refused: I know it, my son, I know it. He'll be a people too, and he'll be great too. But truly his younger brother will be greater than him, and his offspring will turn into a crowd of nations. And he blessed them that day: In you Israel will bless, saying, God make you like Ephraim and like Manasseh. And he set Ephraim in front of Manasseh. And Israel said to Joseph: Look — I'm dying. But God will be with you and bring you back to the land of your fathers. And I've given you one part more than your brothers, that I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.

Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.
